SEE OIL UNDER YOUR BIKE? DON’T JUST START THROWING PARTS AT IT. 😂
Here’s a simple way to track down a common Harley oil leak:
1️⃣ Check the oil level first, make sure it isn’t overfilled.
2️⃣ Clean the engine and surrounding area so old oil doesn’t fool you into thinking you found the source.
3️⃣ Dry everything completely, then start the bike and inspect for fresh oil.
4️⃣ Check common leak areas such as the drain plug/O-ring, oil filter, rocker-box gaskets, primary cover, transmission area and oil lines/fittings.
5️⃣ Follow the fresh oil upward, where it lands isn’t always where the leak started.
6️⃣ If you find a loose fastener, don’t just crank it tighter. Check your model/year’s service-manual torque specification first.
7️⃣ Replace the failed seal, gasket or O-ring using the correct procedure for your Harley.
8️⃣ Clean everything again, run the bike, and check for leaks before taking it back out.
⚠️ If you can’t clearly identify the source, the leak is significant, or oil could reach the tire/brakes, park it and have a qualified technician inspect it.
😂 And if you wake up tomorrow to ONE fresh drop on the garage floor… welcome back to Step 1.
