This was a first for Shadetree Garage. A battery swap on a chevy Volt. They have a life span and in this case the car that had body damage had a much newer battery so it became the donor car.

In order to make the new battery see the new car without programming from a dealer it was a matter of transferring the control modules from one battery to the other then the car thinks it is the same battery that came out.

Of course it helps if you are familiar with the batteries and know what not to touch.

Having a lift was the key to a quick swap, it was just a matter of unbolting the 600 pound battery while it is resting on a steel cart then lift the car up off the battery.

We have another engine rebuild happening at Shadetree Garage this week. It is a 4.0 V6 from a Ranger. These are the worst for the timing change tensioners giving out. You can only replace them with the engine out of the truck since there are 3 of them. Should be back together soon and on the road.

It was 11 degrees this morning in Mont Alto but nice and warm in the garage. Here are a few of the customers today. Replacing the shift solenoids yourself in this BMW is something that will save this customer thousands of $ and he gets the satisfaction of doing the job himself. Saturday was an interesting day. We often have a father / son working on a car but this was the first time we had two at the same time. It is great to see two generations working together on a project and having fun doing it. One was a cat-back muffler delete on a Dodge and the other a suspension refit. Both came out well and everyone had a good time.

It has been a while since I posted news from STG. These pics are from a recent 4.0 rebuild done at the garage. Seems that the timing chains all go at about the same mileage.
This fall we have had lots of suspension work done including a total rebuild of an F150 with torsion bar suspension.
As the weather has turned colder remember that the garage is nice and warm inside and nothing beats working on your car on a lift in a warm, well lit garage. If you have something in mind just give is a call and we will schedule you in at a time that works for you.

Thursday at Shadetree and this pony car is getting a big intercooler upgrade. The job goes so much faster when you can quickly adjust the car height as you need it to get access. Just a little while longer and they will be able to feel the difference on the way home.
