ith one part-time instructor and a mission: to provide high-quality driver education at a time when schools were phasing it out. Today, we’re a full-time, state-licensed program with a team of dedicated instructors who also serve as educators, law enforcement officers, and teen mentors. Our curriculum goes beyond the textbook — using interactive tools and a strong foundation in defensive driving to prepare students for real-world safety.

DYK? The Wisconsin DMV offers students ages 15-17 the opportunity to take the DMV’s knowledge test online with parent or guardian supervision.

The knowledge test is a two-part exam that covers rules of the road and road signs. This online process is available to students who have completed the classroom portion of their training. Security measures are in place to ensure the integrity of the testing.

There is a $10 fee for the online service, but the test will still be free to take at DMV customer service centers. Start here: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/teen-driver/teen-hw-aply/knowledge.aspx

Turn signals are the primary communication system from one vehicle to another. Using them can improve everyone’s safety - and it’s the law! Here’s a fun piece of trivia to start your morning. We’ll post the answer in the comments later today!

Due to several School Closings already at 2pm within the Dane County and surrounding counties- we are going to cancel tomorrow's Driving Sessions. We will start filling out the remaining open slots this week with those who are cancelled for tomorrow. If a date/time does not work please reach out and we'll try to come up with a date/time that works.

To all those who have Drive Times scheduled on Monday the 16th - we are keeping a close eye on the potential snow storms. There are a lot of conflicting reports that are stating that green county will get less than 3" to over 8". We are watching the school closing reports and will email families directly as well as post here if we decide to cancel.

If we do cancel, we will automatically schedule you for the next earliest time slot after 24 hours. That way, if the time/date does not work for you, you have time to cancel and reschedule without a fee.

Thank you,

Starting in April, our spring driving hours are expanding to give families even more flexibility.
At our MJM main hub- we’re shifting our start time from 8:30 to 8:15, driving all the way until 5pm, and opening select Saturday availability.

These changes mean more drive times for students and more opportunities for us to talk with parents about how their student is progressing behind the wheel. We love having that extra time to share strengths, growth areas, and next steps.

And don’t forget — we’ve added new pick‑up locations across the region, so be sure to take advantage of the one closest to you. We want scheduling to be as easy and accessible as possible.

If you're heading to the polls today for the Spring Primary Election, you can show your regular driver license or ID. A federally compliant REAL ID is not necessary.

🚨🚨Instructor Spotlight: Josh Richards🚨🚨

Josh brings a unique blend of family values, real‑world driving experience, and a lifelong passion for working with kids. When he’s not in the driver’s seat, you’ll usually find him at the rink — he and his son both play hockey, and Josh proudly helps coach the local 6U team. At home, he’s also the biggest fan of his daughter, who loves princesses, twirling, and dance class. Josh and his wife have been married nearly seven years, and their family is at the heart of everything he does.

Before starting at MJM Hill Driving School, Josh spent years in the agriculture industry as a North American Sales Manager- traveling across the U.S. and Canada and logging countless miles in trucks and trailers through every kind of weather imaginable. That experience — paired with his early years working as a YMCA after‑school and summer program counselor — shaped his calm, patient, and kid‑centered teaching style. There isn’t much he hasn’t seen on the road, and he brings that steady confidence into every lesson… along with a healthy dose of humor. Josh loves slipping a dad joke or two into every session, helping students relax, laugh, and realize that learning to drive doesn’t have to be stressful.

During Wisconsin School Bus Driver Appreciation Week, it’s important for parents and guardians to remind their kids of the school bus danger zones, the areas where children are in the most danger of being hit.

• Kids should stay at least 12 feet from the bus, stay away from tires, and always wait until the bus comes to a stop before approaching.
• When crossing in front of the bus, follow the directions of the bus driver and help stay visible by crossing at least 10 feet in front of the bus.

Thank you to school bus drivers everywhere for keeping our students safe!

- when merging onto another road, like an interstate or highway, drivers should yield to traffic already moving on the roadway.

When using an entrance ramp, aim to enter the highway at the same speed that traffic is moving. High-speed roadways generally have an acceleration lane to give drivers time to build up speed before merging into traffic.

If you are waiting for space to enter a roadway, slow down on the ramp so you have some room to speed up before merging.
