Today would have been Sam's 79th birthday - although he would have told you that he had already reached it as he could never remember how old he was. :)

I found this small booklet just before Sam and Carolyn's marriage anniversary this year. I scanned it and considered posting it for their first anniversary together in 13 years, but didn't as it seemed too personal a day. Today is a birthday though, and it should be celebrated by all.

Happy Birthday Dad, we all miss you but take great joy knowing that you are back celebrating this special day with Mom.

For over 45 years, the residents of Monroe County have allowed us to make Monroe a little safer and a little prettier, one car at a time. But all good things must come to an end.

On May 30, 2015, Solomon Collision Center, Inc. will close its doors and cease operations.

Our thanks to the Monroe community, our deceased parents Sam and Carolyn Solomon, and our team of family and friends who has been with us since their teens. You made "the shop" a good place to be and a wonderful place to grow up and learn that it isn't what you do that's important, it's how you do it and the lives that you touch in the process.

Thank you for the memories and best of luck to our team as they start new chapters in their lives.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Sam started Solomon Collision Center over 45 years ago and, more than anything else, I believe that he loved the fact that it let him meet and help so many people. He had a true passion for helping people, particularly at times when maybe they weren't feeling their best.

Both Sam and Carolyn shared the desire to help others and it went beyond anything else that they had together. Whether it was supporting their church, aiding a civic group, running a rescue call, sponsoring a car wash, or simply singing a beautiful song, helping others was always the common theme.

Thank you all supporting their dreams and their passion. Sam, Carolyn, and the whole Solomon Family are truly better for knowing each of you.

It is with sadness and regret that we announce the death of our father and founder, Samuel Solomon, at 78. Sam passed away peacefully this morning with his family present. Funeral arrangements are pending at Rupp Funeral Home in Monroe.

Thank you for teaching all of us the value of hard work, taking pride in family and community, and most of all to have compassion for others. You were a wonderful example for all of us and you will be missed as much as we knew you missed being at your shop with us each day. Rest in peace.

Thank you to all who serve.

Sgt. Samuel Solomon accepting and returning a salute to Master Sgt. Dale Stringham (Ret.) during a pinning ceremony at Mr. Solomon’s home on June 15, 2014.

The Solomon family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe, Mr. Dale Stringham, and US Army Recruiting in Monroe for the presentation of a certificate of appreciation, two pins, and a US Army cap and shirt during a ceremony at Sam’s home recognizing his status as a military veteran.

Sam remembers his days in the Michigan National Guard and the US Army fondly and has regaled his family with Army stories for many years. We sincerely appreciate both the compassion and respect that these outstanding organizations and their membership have shown to all members of our family.

Are you covered?

With the winter weather in full effect lately, and more expected soon, we would like to encourage you to review your auto insurance coverage. Many insurance companies will allow you to alter your coverage within the year. If you don't have collision coverage, or if you can't afford your deductible, then please work with your agent to discuss a change - even if it is only for the winter months. The Michigan winter is not the ideal time to find yourself without transportation.

Please drive safely.
