- Tuesday Morning Commute Ice Potential -
Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for Sullivan, Delaware, Ulster, Dutchess, Greene and Columbia counties. Orange & Putnam counties continue to have a Freezing rain advisory for Tuesday morning.
We have a low pressure system in the mid west, that will push a warm front into our area by sunrise. Along that warm front an area of light moisture should develop... and with temperatures near freezing in some areas, pockets of light freezing rain are possible in the Hudson Valley. The moisture appears likely to arrive between 5am and 8am, and should be rather light (less than a tenth of an inch). The primary area of concern is north of I-84... and the risk increases the further north you go, and the further away from the river you go... into the hill towns.
This doesn't look to be a widespread, significant ice event, but it does have the potential to cause icy sidewalks and driveways, as well as icy conditions on untreated roadways. And as we know with freezing rain, it only takes a light glaze to cause big problems. Timing and temperature are critical in a situation like this, so you will want to take stock of the situation in the morning. As Tuesday morning continues... temperatures should rise above freezing across the entire region. So, when the batch of steadier rain showers arrive toward mid day, it should be a plain, cold rain.
We'll try to have one more post later this evening on the AM commute, just to share if any new information has come out. Have a nice evening everyone!
