UAP stopped by the opening day of the Washington DC Auto Show in preparation for what we may see at the Twin Cities Auto Show March 11-19.
Some big brand themes were:
• Made in America from those other than the Big 3
• Performance focus on muscle and not tank
• Stylized vehicle options to personalize your ride
• Technology whether based in steel block or copper wire
Only a few concept vehicles were on the exhibit, two that were receiving wide attention was Jeep’s answer to comfort while trekking and Toyota’s global solution for a greener future.
All in all, Green tech promotions were down with the exception of hydrogen-based technologies represented by Toyota and Hyundai, and Chrysler’s submission of the Pacifica hybrid. We thought that we would see more of an autonomous vehicle promotions with Ford, BMW and others, but it was all about HP, color, and detail (It is an auto show after all…). That all being said the Green Car Award was won by the Acura NSX, which captures many of these themes. Upclose, this vehicle is good for any living thing pumping less carbon and more endorphins.
The big attractions based on crowds:
• BMW Wins the Category if color and all-around performance is the criteria
• Chevrolet’s answer to 650HP – the Z06. Get in line to have a seat in that cockpit
• Alfa tapping into an American market with models like the 4C Spyder and Stelvio
• Audi R8 distinctive looks in blue steel
• Jaguar F-Type SVR - not ferocious in white, but stimulating
• Nissan’s GT-R had every millennial snapchatting from the driver’s seat
• Mercedes perfection and a don’t touch AMG GT
• And finally, a favorite brand Porsche tripping back in time at mach speed with a red 911 Targa 4S
We are looking forward to seeing more in March!
