Maxfield Mobile Mechanic here!
Contained in this post will be some changes as to how things are going to take place with every customer interaction.
Every customer who calls, texts or messages for service will now be given a digital copy of new business policies as well as a break down of how my business does its billing. This detailed information will be done so customers are fully aware of up front costs and what is charged per hour along with travel requirements and how it is calculated. Customers will also now be required to sign contracts and service agreements in person. The in person agreements only apply to Millinocket, East Millinocket and Medway areas. If customers are outside of Medway or the address provided requires highway travel your contracts can be emailed to you but must be signed before any work takes place or scheduled appointments happen. All emailed contracts MUST be signed within 24 hours or your appointment will be canceled.
The Travel fee of $1.50 per mile is now billed as a round trip, this means to and from customers and is now required to be paid for up front. Customers can provide a valid card to pay over the phone or can request a digital invoice be sent to them via text or email where it can be paid online. All sent invoices have a 24 hour period to be paid or appointments and any invoices will be canceled.
I am also beginning the process of transitioning into a cash only business to make it easier on customers. As of now I am still accepting cards however by June 1st I will be cash only. If customers have no way of paying cash and their only method of payment is a card then any cash pricing they’re given will change and all customers will be notified accordingly.
These changes do not mean or imply I will negotiate or barter with customers. Pricing is locked and will not be adjusted or changed unless explicitly done so by me and only me, the business owner. All written estimates and invoices are now required to have any parts pre paid for. This is to ensure pricing given can be honored without any changes as parts pricing is subject to change from day to day. All remaining balances for labor on invoices are now explicitly required to be paid upon work completion and before the business leaves. Failure to do so will result in a lien being placed on your vehicle for the total of any balances you owe, small claims court lawsuit or the business perusing theft of service charges if the customer agreed to the charges and fails to render payment for delivered services.
The next change being made is vehicle look overs. As of now they are no longer $20. They are now a flat rate price. New pricing for check over which will now be done if the customer has a concern and an appropriate diagnosis is required or the vehicle needs to be seen in person. New pricing on that is $40. For customers who have had their vehicle looked at by another shop, a detailed write up will need to be seen before any pricing is given. If it is deemed that the vehicle needs to be looked at to confirm the write up then the $40 will be charged.
The final change being made is after July 1st I will no longer be offering the customer supplied parts service. Due to warranty issues as well as liability concerns I am doing away with this service all together. My business is here to help everyone. I offer something nobody can get from a traditional shop. I eliminate the hassle of a tow bill, long wait at a shop and the headache of having to wait for a phone call while repair shops look at your vehicle.
My pricing is fair and very affordable for today’s market. I am here to help everyone as much as possible but will now, no longer allow anyone to try and take advantage of my business or services I offer. If it continues then all my pricing will be changed to coincide with what shop rates are at. This also includes changes to travel charges as well. I do not want it to come to that point however I will make these changes if my pricing is going to continue getting backlash, argued with or bartered over. Everyone needs a vehicle to get places.
Let’s treat me the same way you treated the local repair shop you gave your business to before you called me. Nobody argues with a shops pricing or a bill that’s put in front of you just for them looking at your vehicle and charging you a full hour of their labor price so I shouldn’t be treated any different. I beat shop pricing every single day with how my pricing is structured all while saving you loads of money. I eliminate the middle man as I have less expenses than a shop does and I go directly to your door!
We all need to eat and provide for our families. We all feel the pressure of how the economy is today so please take that into consideration before you try to haggle me or try bartering a deal with my pricing. I’m not here to make millions. I’m doing this to survive and make nothing more than an honest living.
