๐จ SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED FRIDAY as storms may produce STRONG TORNADOES ๐ช๏ธ, Baseball โพ๏ธ size hail ๐ง(up to 3 inches), and Severe damaging winds ๐จ greater than 60-mph.
Forecast conditions appear favorable for supercell thunderstorms, which are capable of producing strong tornadoes, large to very large hail, and severe wind gusts Friday afternoon through Friday night across parts of the central and southern Plains into the Missouri Valley.
๐ช๏ธ Primary Threats:
โข Strong Tornadoes (EF2+) possible
โข Very Large Hail โ 2 to 3 inches in diameter (baseball - tennis ball size) โพ๏ธ ๐พ
โข Damaging Wind Gusts โ 60+ mph ๐จ
๐ Greatest Concern:
Eastern Kansas, Oklahoma, and western Missouri, where the environment will be most supportive of intense supercell storms capable of producing strong tornadoes and very large hail.
Storms are expected to initiate late Friday afternoon, likely forming along a corridor from northeast Kansas southward along the I-35 corridor into central Oklahoma. These storms may begin as discrete supercells, which have the greatest potential to produce tornadoes and giant hail.
As the evening progresses, storms may grow into a larger line of severe thunderstorms, allowing the threat for damaging winds and embedded tornadoes to continue eastward into the Ozarks and Lower Missouri Valley overnight.
Additional more isolated storms may also develop across north-central Texas and the Texas Hill Country, where large hail and an isolated tornado will also be possible.
โฐ Timing:
โข Late Friday Afternoon: Storms begin developing
โข Friday Evening: Peak tornado and giant hail potential
โข Overnight Friday Night: Storms organize into a severe line moving east
Atmospheric conditions Friday evening could feature very strong wind shear and favorable storm rotation, which may support strong tornadoes if discrete supercells develop and persist.
โ ๏ธFriday is shaping up to be a potentially significant severe weather day across the central U.S. If you live in the risk area, review your severe weather safety plans and stay weather aware.
