👀 A bumper can hide a surprising amount of the repair.

With the rear bumper cover and lamps removed from this sedan, the area behind the finished exterior is finally open for inspection.

Now the technician has access to mounting locations, reinforcement areas, rear body components, and sections that would otherwise be covered up.

This is why disassembly is more than taking parts off so work can begin.

It is part of finding the damage.

You cannot build a complete repair plan around areas you have not been able to inspect yet.

What you see standing behind the car is only the outside layer.

🔵 We could talk about bumper repair.

But first, look at that blue.

This bumper cover is sitting on a padded stand inside the Estes Collision shop after refinishing, and the overhead lights really show off the color and gloss.

With the bumper off the vehicle, you also get a good look at how much is built into what seems like one simple exterior piece.

Lamp openings. Grille openings. Mounting tabs. Curves and edges that eventually have to line back up with the rest of the front end.

Once it is installed, most people will only notice the finished face.

Right now, we get to appreciate all the parts you normally never see. 😎

🦌 Montana’s trip to work took a turn when he hit a deer.

He put it pretty plainly:

“I smoked a deer going to work one morning…”

After the truck was repaired?

“You would never know it happened.”

Montana also mentioned being kept informed with weekly updates and called the finished work high quality.

🎨 The shiny part comes later.

This Cadillac is in the prep stage, with masking paper and plastic protecting the areas around the section being refinished.

That may not be the part of paint work that gets photographed very often, but it has a big job.

The surface has to be prepared correctly. Areas that are not being refinished need to be protected. The color has to be matched. Then the finish has to be applied in the proper environment.

You can even see the Blowtherm paint booth in the background of the shop.

🔧 There’s a reason two people are paying attention to the same bumper.

This Chevrolet Suburban is going back together, and the rear bumper cover has to meet the body correctly across a pretty wide vehicle.

The crew is watching the corners, mounting locations, gaps, and the way the cover lines up with the surrounding panels.

That is the thing about reassembly.

A part can technically be attached and still not sit right.

Getting it back on is one step.

📝 Your eyes probably went straight to the windshield.

Ours go to the pink marker too.

This Nissan came in with major windshield damage, and the notes written across the glass, hood, lamps, and body panels help show how much planning can happen before the repair starts.

Collision damage is rarely summed up by one broken part.

The team has to document what was affected, determine what needs closer inspection, and build the repair plan around the vehicle as a whole.

There is another reason the windshield deserves attention on a modern vehicle. Cameras and driver-assistance equipment can be located around that area, which means replacing the glass may also involve additional procedures and recalibration.

😎 This is the quiet part of collision repair.

No parts carts. No masking paper. No bumper sitting on a stand.

Just a finished BMW sitting outside the Estes Collision facility in Miami.

By this point, all the noisy parts of the job have happened inside. Disassembly, repair planning, body work, refinishing, reassembly, fit checks, and cleanup all lead to a photo that looks pretty simple.

That is kind of the goal.

When the work is finished, the repair should stop being the first thing you notice.

📝 Want to know what a collision repair plan can look like before anybody cleans the window?

Read the glass on this Honda.

The notes call out the left fog light, left fender and liner, possible hood/door blending, mirror damage, rocker molding, wheel and tire, lower control arm, tie rod, and an alignment.

That’s a lot more specific than “fix the front corner.”

And that’s the point.

A proper repair plan follows the damage into every area that needs attention instead of stopping at the first dent you can see.

Sometimes the best picture of the repair is the checklist written right beside it.
