Sad news. (See Below) Tom was at our Miata event “Golden Gate Getaway” around 1996. We held a murder mystery dinner and killed him. But the twist was he wasn’t murdered, it was somebody else. When I contacted him about coming to the Miata event, I told him we wanted him to come so we could kill him. He loved the idea and really hammed it up for everyone.

We are heartbroken to share the passing of Tom Matano, the beloved father of the Miata and an inspiration to our entire community. His vision gave us more than a car—it gave us friendships, memories, and a family that spans the world.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the Miata community during this difficult time.

A tribute will be shared soon as we honor the incredible legacy Tom leaves behind.
