The complexity of today’s vehicles directly impacts collision repair because even small accidents can affect systems that drivers never see.

Think about it this way...

“Modern collision repair is about much more than fixing dents. Technicians are repairing and restoring advanced safety technology built into the vehicle.”

Here’s how that complexity relates to collision repair:

Sensors and Cameras:
Vehicles now have radar sensors, cameras, blind-spot monitors, and lane assist systems hidden behind bumpers, mirrors, windshields, and grills. A small impact can throw them out of alignment.

Vehicle Safety Systems:
Airbags, crash sensors, seatbelt systems, and structural components are engineered to work together precisely during a crash. Repairs must restore the vehicle to manufacturer standards.

Advanced Materials:
Many vehicles use aluminum, ultra-high-strength steel, carbon fiber, and mixed materials that require special tools and repair procedures.

Calibrations:
After repairs, many systems need electronic calibration so features like automatic braking and adaptive cruise control function correctly again.

Manufacturer Procedures:
Repair shops now follow detailed OEM repair procedures, scan vehicles before and after repairs, and often use specialized equipment and certifications.

Today’s collision repair industry is as much about technology and safety as it is bodywork and paint.

OEM certifications help ensure the shop understands those requirements.:

OEM certification means the repair shop has the training, equipment, and manufacturer support needed to repair your vehicle properly.

Or even simpler:

“It’s the vehicle manufacturer saying, ‘We trust this shop to repair our vehicles correctly.’”

Today’s vehicles are basically computers on wheels. What used to be mostly mechanical is now a combination of advanced electronics, sensors, cameras, radar systems, software, and high-strength materials all working together at once.

A simple way to describe it is:

“Modern vehicles are incredibly complex because every system is connected. Safety features, engine performance, braking, steering, cameras, and even headlights all communicate through computers.”

For a collision repair or customer-focused explanation:

“Fixing today’s vehicles is no longer just replacing parts and painting. Technicians are restoring a highly advanced safety system designed to protect lives.”

Why is it important to have YOUR Vehicle repaired by a CERTIFIED Collision Center?

Advanced Technology Calibration
Today’s vehicles rely heavily on systems like:

Lane departure warning
Adaptive cruise control
Automatic emergency braking

After a crash, these need precise calibration. Certified shops have the tools and training to recalibrate them correctly—something many non-certified shops can’t do.

Right of choice (often called “Right to Choose”) means you, as the vehicle owner, have the legal right to choose where your car gets repaired after an accident—not your insurance company.

Real-world example:
You crash your truck. Insurance says:

“Take it to Shop A, it’s our preferred shop.”

You can say:

“No, I’m taking it to Shop B because I want certified OEM repairs.”

And that is completely within your rights.

Bottom line:
Right of choice = you control where your vehicle gets repaired, not the insurance company.

Collision Repair Checklist

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A REPAIR SHOP

☐ Verify certifications (I-CAR, OEM certifications, ASE)
☐ Check online reviews + real customer photos
☐ Ask if they follow OEM repair procedures (not “just industry standard”)
☐ Confirm they use genuine OEM or approved parts
☐ Ask about warranty (lifetime vs limited)
☐ Make sure they work with your insurance—but don’t let insurance “steer” your choice
☐ Request a written repair estimate
☐ Ask if they perform post-repair scanning & calibration

Using OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts on a repaired vehicle is one of the biggest factors in whether your car is truly restored—or just patched together. Here’s why it matters:

1. Exact Fit = Safer Repairs
2. Maintains Safety Systems
3. Built to Original Standards
4. No Guesswork for Technicians
5. Protects Vehicle Value
6. Warranty & Reliability
OEM parts help ensure your vehicle is:

As safe as it was before the accident
Repaired to factory standards
Worth what it should be worth

A good collision center isn’t just one that “fixes the dent”—it restores your vehicle’s safety, structure, and value like the accident never happened.

A good collision center does three things extremely well:

Repairs your car safely (not just visually)
Uses proper procedures, parts, and technology
Communicates clearly and stands behind their work
