Ok, sorry for the lack of posts. I have been spread out pretty thin with getting this car done, pushing to get everything ready for the C10 nationals, the 56, and the tornado. Then a week of lost sleep when yet another one strikes again!!

So I got the car in the booth the other weekend and worked hard to get this thing ready. It started off with 5-6 coats of this paint just to get coverage and everything was looking pretty good. Had some dirt in the paint as I had to lay on the ground to spray under it then clear, but the real disaster was the last coat of clear. Wrong hardener, bad hardener, too heavy, new to me high solids clear, bad technique, tired, new gun, new booth (a friend of a friends). Just too many variables!! The main thing is that it was able to be saved!!

So, if anyone is scared of paint and body work, or doing anything in general, because you might fail or not succeed. Don’t let that stop you. Sure people will tell you how they are perfect and how it always goes according to plan on the internet, how you should do it their way, you did it all wrong and you suck, etc... That is so far from the truth. So get out there and start building your dreams!!!

Things are crazy with trying to get everything ready for C10 Nationals, get the 56 ready to drive down there, getting all the handles ready, the tornado that came down our street, and a pint job that was half kind of done 5-8 years ago. To whoever started it, I can’t see what they did under the primer ,but by what can I see in the metal work that was done, and how straight the body work that was started is, they were doing a good job.

Where am I at now? I blocked out the old primer and flattened the bodywork out some more and threw on a seal coat. Then we took the car apart and did the jams and painted them the other weekend. Last weekend we slapped it back together. I took 2 more days and blocked what I would call a heavy seal coat with 400/600 and wiped it down. This Friday I will finish the 2 small quarter extensions and start to tape it off and get it to the booth. Sunday will be paint day.

Is there anyone who likes wiring? I never met a guy yet 🤣 I don’t feel that it’s a difficulty thing but definitely a tim...

Is there anyone who likes wiring? I never met a guy yet 🤣 I don’t feel that it’s a difficulty thing but definitely a time thing! Unless of course you got something wrong and have to chase wires!!!! Waiting for the wire loom to arrive but I should have everything either connected or laid out tomorrow. The rest will have to wait til next weekend… stay tuned

Last Sunday I tore my calf muscle and still recovering, so I decided to take ole genesis (C10) out for a rip and headed to the Greenville Lions Club first annual show. I met up with my friend that I did the body and paint work on his Superbird and he took it out there. Boy did that sure get the looks and attention!!

Here’s a little sneak peak of the 65’s paint. Started the wet sanding today and made one pass with cutting compound to get a good look at it. Missed a little texture in a few spots but it sure looks pretty flat already!! I’ll go back over those couple spots. Hopefully I’ll have it all finished up by next weekend.

It’s been a little bit but I been busy. Last weekend I finished up the body work and blocked out the primer. Blew the car apart and got the jams painted. Spent last Thursday and Friday prepping the car for paint today. Overall, I am happy with how it turned out and the colors that they picked look amazing!! In a few weeks I’ll start wet sanding cut and buff. Stay tuned

Here is the 65 chevelle continuation. After last weekend working on the gaps I put a couple coats of epoxy on to seal it. Then I started working on the panel to panel gaps to get them flattened out. A friend also threw some square body finders, upper valance and visor in the mix. After roughing in the body work I got a few coats of primer on. I’m happy with how it turned out. Next weekend I will block it out and correct any imperfections I am not happy with and get it in final primer. The following weekend I feel like I should be able to jam it and get it ready for paint. Stay tuned and have a great week!

What’s on my mind. My friend got the 65 chevelle panels installed. I took a day last weekend to straighten out the gaps. I’ll be getting everything ready for body work next weekend and see where it needs attention but appears pretty straight already.

I just want to say this for anyone restoring a project or just curious, these cars did not have the same standards as vehicles today. Body lines just needed to be close and panel, hood, cowl, trunk, and door gaps had roughly a 1/4” gap tolerance and they usually never lined up. You could have a door gap on the front of the door at 3/16” and the rear of the door at 5/16”. Car tolerances were better than the “farm” trucks but not much. It does not matter if it is an original (OEM) panel or aftermarket. If you want them to look uniform and clean, you have to put in the time and make them look like that.

There’s only one way a vehicle manufactured in the 60’s can look flat with nice gaps. It is very unlikely to be able to buy a panel, bolt it on and it will look perfect. Time, patience, knowledge, practice and sometimes a good friend is needed. You want to meet some good people? Start building a car… 😁 have a great rest of the week and stay tuned for the progress.

Finally took a day to finish with the cutting compound. Looking like a truck again. Now I’ll take my time and start work...
