FROM BREVARD COUNTY SAVE OUR INDIAN RIVER LAGOON
We have had many comments, emails, and phone calls related to the Blue Origin Discharge Permit request and there appears to be some confusion that Brevard County is involved with the permitting process, which we are not. We would like to clear up this misinformation and provide citizens with the proper information to make their voices heard on this topic. The permits to discharge to the lagoon are handled by the State of Florida through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
Brevard County has no authority to regulate these discharges but we do understand the public's desire to be heard. Therefore, at tonight's 5:00 pm Board of County Commissioners meeting, Brevard County Natural Resources Management Department is requesting (Item J.2) that the Board approve and authorize the department, on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, to submit written comments to FDEP and a request for a public meeting regarding Draft Permit FL0A00007-002-IW7A submitted by Blue Origin, LLC.
The public can submit their own comments and request a public meeting by writing to Randall Cunningham, 3319 Maguire Blvd, Suite 232, Orlando, Florida 32803-3767. Those requests must contain the following information:
• The commenter's name, address and telephone number
• The applicant's name and address (Blue Origin, LLC, 8082 Space Commerce Way, Merritt Island, FL 32953); DEP's permit file number (FL0A00007-002-IW7A); and the county in which the project is proposed (Brevard);
• A statement of how and when notice of DEP's action or proposed action was received.
• A statement of the facts DEP should consider in making the final decision.
• A statement of which rules or statutes require reversal or modification of DEP's action or proposed action.
• And/or a request that a public meeting be scheduled, including a statement of the nature of the issues proposed to be raised at the meeting.
Comments must be received within 30 days of publication of the public notice (published on 11/18/25), so they must be delivered to FDEP's office by 12/18/2025.
