WARNING to my AMC friends, this page is a total scam! They stole a bunch of posts from my shop page and from friends to scam people trying to buy parts they don't have.

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow Ohio AMX, LLC on Facebook. You may have noticed that this page has not been updated in a while, since about the time Facebook's role in the 2020 presidential election was revealed. I strongly believe that Facebook is complicit in political corruption as well as the censorship of traditional American opinions and freedoms, and for that reason I no longer wish for my business to be associated with this platform.

For those who are interested the shop is doing fine and is as busy as ever. I am in the process of developing a completely new website for Ohio AMX and hope to have it online before spring. I have left this page up strictly to provide contact information, but it will be deleted as soon as the website goes live. Thank you again for all of your support over the past several years!

Our 1974 AMX project has several details I haven't seen before. Such as using a metal disc and body sealer in place of the usual 1.5" plastic plugs in the rear floor pans.

Here is how to replace rubber fender seals using the original staple holes. Use a section of masking tape to transfer the position of the holes to the replacement seals. Then use pliers and a welding clamp to crimp the staples. This set of reproduction seals from APD fit perfectly and included the new staples.

I had never seen rear bumper supports like these before, with extra pieces welded on to make two of the bolt holes smaller. I figured someone had modified them until a quick wash revealed factory original trunk paint over the welds. These are from a low mile 1974 AMX.

Long ago this '74 AMX had some front end damage. It was repaired using both new and used parts, but some of the structural supports were just pounded back into shape, probably good enough for a used car back then. Now it's time to repair all of the collision damage properly, including replacement of the fiberglass hood, apparently a casualty of the wreck.

When a new restoration part becomes available to the AMC community it's always good news. When it's a part that's been badly needed for so many years, the news becomes even greater. Doug at American Parts Depot asked if I would evaluate a brand new set of "etched" door sill plates made to fit AMX, Javelin, and SC/Rambler models, and I was happy to oblige.

The set arrived individually boxed and protected by a plastic bag and styrofoam packaging. The first thing I did was to grab a decent original sill plate for comparison. Because these are made with brand new tooling you cannot expect them to be absolutely identical to an AMC original, and there are in fact very slight differences which can only be noticed when the new and original plates are placed side by side. The stampings are nicer than the smooth second run plates which were sold by Chrysler. The American Motors lettering is crisp and well defined, and the "etching" is nicely done as well. These look just like early style NOS sill plates.

Next I test fit a new plate using my own 1969 AMX. I can say that it fit perfectly with the ends snugly securing the stormstrips which extend underneath them. The best way to install sill plates is to start all of the screws, then sit on the plate to seat it instead of drawing it down with the screws. Avoid overtightening them as this can also distort the plates. Once installed these polished sill plates look absolutely fantastic!

American Parts Depot has once again teamed up with Kennedy American in order to produce another badly needed part. The sill plates list for a very reasonable $95 per side, and are currently in stock and available from both vendors. If there is anything I've learned in the past four decades of working on these cars it's to buy parts when they are offered, don't assume they will still be available in three or five years when you plan to restore your car!

In closing I should mention that I always install the seats before the sill plates so there is no danger of dinging them while wrestling the seats into the car. After taking these pics I removed the new sill plate to keep them safe until the interior is complete.

No, no it won't.
