Just throw some trees in the ground, wait 8-10 years and sell! We soon found out that would not be the truth and we were in for a lot of hard work. After the first harvest Micky says' your on your own bro this isn't what we thought! Can't blame him for sure! In comes brother Rick! Between planting in the spring, trees are all mowed around. In July/August (hottest part of year of course) all trees
have to sheared and pruned to get the best possible shape and tops hopefully straight. All trees have to be fertilized! Then in fall (oh ya we need a tree baler $$$ ) trees are cut, baled, sorted and loaded onto trucks or trailers for delivery! At one point we had apx. 12-14,000 trees. I SOON FOUND OUT this was no get rich quick scheme, especially living in MA. and traveling to ME. In the early 2000s Al decided due to a bad leg wound to sell out to Rick and he now is the sole owner of Balsam Acres Christmas Tree Farm.
