We loved getting the chance to share our story! A huge thank you to BodyShop Marketing for having us on and giving us the opportunity to look back at where we started, how far we’ve come, and everything we’ve learned along the way. Check out the full conversation below! 👇

Chris Dacus asked his boss if he could buy the shop someday.
The next morning he was told to pack up. If you want to be my competition, it's time for us to part ways.
He had been married three months.
What he and Kena did next is one of my favorite stories we've had on this show. They owned a little 3,000 square foot building on Main Street in Canton, Kansas. Population 700. They bought a used paint booth for $2,000 and tore it down and moved it themselves. Kena kept her job at the bank so they would have health insurance, and she did his books at night.
Chris wrote estimates and talked to adjusters all day. Then he locked the front door and did the body work.
Three years later the phone rang. Same owner who let him go. He needed to sell fast and had no other buyers. They closed in 30 days.
Today Dacus Auto Body runs multiple locations, a towing company, more than 40 employees, 16 OEM certifications and I-CAR Gold Class.
Kena sits on the SCRS board now. She is a past president of the Kansas Auto Body Association. And she just won the 2026 WIN Most Influential Woman Award.
We got into all of it. Including what she would do differently on OEM certifications if she could start over, and why she thinks every shop owner needs to get on a trade school advisory committee.
