You don't have to know exactly what car you want before you start shopping.

Tell me what your vehicle needs to do. Tell me what's frustrating you about the one you have. Tell me what you're not willing to give up.

From there, we can start figuring out what actually makes sense.

If you're somewhere in DFW thinking, “I know I need another car, but I don't even know where to start,” that's a conversation I'm happy to have.

You've bought the car, finished the paperwork and finally have the keys.

I understand wanting to get out of the dealership and start enjoying it.

But delivery is still part of the car-buying experience, and I think there are a few things worth doing before you leave.

Because “Congratulations, here's your key” shouldn't be the end of taking care of somebody.

Same year. Same model. Similar mileage. And one is $2,000 cheaper.

One of the quickest ways to lose someone's trust is to ask them what matters and then act like they never answered.

And sometimes you can tell pretty quickly whether someone is actually listening to you or simply waiting for another opportunity to sell.

There's something I'm completely comfortable telling a customer after 12 years in the car business.

And strangely enough, I think experience has made me MORE comfortable saying it, not less.

Especially selling pre-owned vehicles, where I can go from a Hyundai to a Toyota to a Ford to a BMW in the same day. There's a difference between being experienced and pretending you have every answer.

Here's something I've been thinking about after 12 years in the car business.

Most people don't buy cars very often.

Yet somehow we've created an experience where customers sometimes feel like they need to study the car business before they're comfortable walking into a dealership.

Think about that for a second.

People research what to say.

What not to say.

What questions they're supposed to ask.

What terminology they're supposed to know.

Researching a major purchase makes perfect sense.

But feeling like you need to prepare for the people you're buying it from?

**That's a different conversation.**

I want to give some people in our community their flowers.

Sunday, our Huffines Hyundai McKinney team had the opportunity to help at The Community Food Pantry of McKinney as they prepared for another week of serving our neighbors.

We were there for a few hours.

They're doing the work week after week.

Providing food and essential items. Helping families. Serving people with dignity. Doing work that many of us probably never see.

Those are the people this post is about.

Here's a question I've been thinking about.

If customers are willing to pay someone else to help them navigate buying a car, what created the demand for that service in the first place?

I don't think the most useful response from our industry is to get offended by it.

I think there's something we can learn from it.

And that conversation gets bigger than advocates pretty quickly.

I've noticed that sometimes customers seem almost hesitant to ask certain questions or really dig into a vehicle.
Maybe they don't want to be difficult.
Please be difficult. 😂
Okay, maybe not difficult.
But ask questions. Do your homework. Make sure you understand what you're considering before you make the decision.
I'd much rather have someone make an informed decision than drive home wondering whether they missed something.
Because my job isn't to convince you this is the right car.
It's to give you enough information to decide whether it is.
