High pressure fuel pump on an Infinity QX56. This was an interesting one. The cam bucket got jammed into the hole during the same previous repair by someone else. Had to fix the hole so the bucket could freely move again. Lots of fun!

Ford water pump. Thankfully not the 3.5 this time. Just a simple water pump.

Did a rear end (differential) on a Mazda Miata. Thought it was going to go quick. *** Sigh *** 'Fraid not. Took every minute of that book time. And I smashed my thumb in the process. It was heavier than it looked. Got quite the workout.

For those following me, I wanted to take a moment and educate everyone a little bit about the automotive industry.

It is not uncommon for shops to encourage you to do excessive repairs when you have some sort of catastrophic failure. However, contrary to what you might expect, it's not usually a profit move. Often as not, their motive is convenience, doubt, or lack of skilled labor.

In the last two months, for example, I had two customers who were both advised to replace their engines. The first had a blown head gasket. The other had a bad lifter. Both were absolutely repairable.

The first vehicle was more than $7,000 to replace the engine. I fixed it for less than $3,000. The other was quoted $11,000 for an engine. I fixed it for less than $4,000.

There are instances where an engine does need to be replaced, like a broken connecting rod, bad crankshaft bearing, or similar. It's just the most economical solution.

But often as not, the engine can be repaired, and for much less than an engine replacement.

When a shop tells you that you need an engine, always get a second opinion. There's a good chance that when they say you need an engine, what they really mean is that they can't fix it, don't want to fix it, or find it more convenient or profitable to replace the engine than fix the problem.

Vehicle suspension issue misdiagnosed as bad wheel bearings. Ended up being bad ball joints. This is a common problem on GMs with OEM lift kits. I was able to save the customer almost $1,000 between a correct diagnosis of the problem and my standard pricing versus a shop.

Don’t let shops beat you up with expensive repair costs. I have over 33 years’ experience in automotive, and I can save you as much as 50% off the average shop price, with every bit of the professionalism you deserve.

I can do most repairs that don't require the vehicle to be lifted. I can do:

β€’ Tune-ups (plugs, coils, wires, etc.).
β€’ Timing belts and chains.
β€’ Valve cover gaskets.
β€’ Head gaskets (if it doesn't need to be lifted).
β€’ Brakes, including electronic rear brakes, master cylinders, calipers, wheel cylinders, drum brakes, etc.
β€’ Alternators, starters, and batteries.
β€’ Radiators, hoses, thermostats, water outlets, intake manifolds and/or gaskets, etc.
β€’ Water pumps (including timing belt or timing chain driven).
β€’ Ball joints, tie rods, idler arms, pitman arms, center links, shocks, struts, and other suspension and steering components.
β€’ Drive belts / Serpentine belts.
β€’ CV axles.
β€’ Air Conditioning... And much more.

I charge parts store walk-in prices for parts, and standard book time labor at $70 an hour. This generally works out to be a little less than half the price an average shop would charge, and is also a good deal less than other mobile mechanics. My goal is to earn some honest money while saving folks in my local communities a lot of dollars.

I do stand behind my work, and I guarantee that the work you request will be done completely and correctly. Jobs are by appointment. You can contact me by text message at 864-320-2757, or by Messenger if you're able. Due to the absurd number of solicitation calls I receive every day, text messages are preferred for first contact.

For accurate estimates, please be prepared to provide your VIN when contacting me. It can usually be found in the driver's side door jam on one of the stickers, at the base of the windshield on the driver's side, or on your registration. Something as small as a sub-model difference can change the cost of a part, the availability of a part, the amount of labor involved, etc.
