The last few cars we have given away we've had to put a considerable amount of money into them to make sure they were safe to be on the road. The car we have now is no exception. We've already put hundreds into it and still have more to do. This car also needs a set of tires on top of all that. A set from Dobbs will cost $450. Would anyone be able to help with the tires? Or does anyone know of a good used set we could get our hands on? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Great news!

I recently became a Lakeland College Community Learning Instructor! We partnered with Lakeland to find a broader audience to teach our car classes to, and we're excited to see where this leads. To sign up for the classes please refer to the contact information on the flyer. I haven't been able to find any groups to teach for quite a while so I'm hoping that we can generate new interest doing it through Lakelands Community learning. Most of the people I work with would greatly benefit from the information that I teach with these classes. I look forward to seeing you in class!

One of our clients was kind enough to make a car donation flyer for us! Would anyone like copies of this to give to other people and businesses? We could use more cars coming in to help people who have no transportation. Thanks to our client for making this and thanks to all of you who will be distributing them!

We were able to give another car away the other day! She is another client who has not been able to get a car for a very long time so we're glad that we received this car donation and that it ran well. This vehicle is a huge blessing in our clients life and we're very thankful for the family that donated it! We hope to have more cars donated so we can help other people who are struggling to get transportation. If you have a vehicle that you are not using anymore and would like to help someone to get blessed with transportation please contact us here or call Dan at 217-273-3161. We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization so all donations are tax deductible. Thank all of you for your support!

There are a couple of car lots nearby that have a bunch of cars that look shiny and decent. Unfortunately, I keep seeing those shiny decent looking cars in my shop after they were purchased with problems that they should have known about before they bought them.

I can't stress enough about getting pre-purchase inspections before you sign that purchase contract. This year I have done pre-purchase inspections for two people but I have done at least two dozen inspections for people who have already bought the cars and have found numerous problems that they could do nothing about because they couldn't afford it. There was one person that I had to tell that the car should be in a scrap yard and a week later I was told that her engine had blown. If you
buy a car off of a lot with under 150,000 miles, you do have an implied warranty for two weeks.. look it up on the Attorney Generals website. Even if you have to pay for an inspection it's money well spent if you know to walk away from a bad car deal rather than buy a lemon. I wish you all the best. Take care and God Bless!

Our client has been taking her old car to the same place for many years to keep up with the maintenance. This included regular oil changes and tune ups. They never told her the fuel lines were rusted badly and the fuel filter looked like it hadn't been changed in years. The moment I touched this line with a wrench, it started leaking gas through the rust. Fortunately we found a repair kit at Napa so we put the replacement kit on with some additional fuel line to get it past the rust. I'm glad we looked at it when we did. The woman who owns the car is on oxygen so it wouldn't have been good if the line had ruptured going down the road, she would have been stranded and she probably would have had tow fees. I'm glad God shows us these problems!

We just had another case of be careful where you take your car.

We were contacted by a lady who drove through flood water a while back and had to get another engine. She took it to a shop that installed a used engine. Soon after that she started having running issues.

That shop told her that she got bad gas so they were supposed to have cleaned the fuel system, but that didn't fix it. So they thought there might have been a problem with the ignition so they replaced some parts, that didn't fix it.
So they told her to have it diagnosed at a local dealership and to bring them the result.

She took it to the dealership to have it diagnosed for the engine cutting out, almost dying several times and she also mentioned that going over tracks the car lost all electric power briefly and then it came right back on. That last part was important.

The dealership tried to recreate the problem on a test drive but it wouldn't act up so they checked the rest of the car over and found several other concerns that they wanted thousands to fix. After that I had agreed to look at it.

Like I do on many things I prayed that God would show me the problem. I found it on the first thing I checked. The positive battery cable attaches to the main fuse box. When the engine was put in and the cables were reattached to that box they forgot to tighten the nut and the cables were very loose, the negative battery cable was also loose. I cleaned and tightened the cables and checked all of the other connections on the engine. I couldn't find any other problems and the car has been running fine since yesterday, I haven't heard otherwise.

In the first shops defense, it's easy to overlook something not being tightened, there are a lot of things that have to be undone when you're changing an engine. However, when there are problems right after an engine change it would be a good idea to look over all of the connections before replacing parts that might be causing problems. Also, the car was taken to a dealership for a specific running issue and just because it didn't act up on a test drive they should have concentrated more on the customers concern, they were told the engine was just replaced and they should have checked the engine over.

The client when talking with the shops gave them a lot of information, she was trying to be very detailed. Some of the important details may have been lost in all of that. When you take your car in for a problem it might be a good idea to just tell them the details of the particular problem you are having. The repair place will probably ask questions to get a better idea of what is going on, this is normal, if they need to know more they will ask you or they should.

I hope this helps someone and I thank God for giving me answers to problems!

We have been able to help a few people lately through a grant from United Way of Coles County! For those of you who don't know, we have been a partnering agency with United Way for a number of years and they have helped us help many people. They support many organizations in Coles County, if you get the chance they are a great organization to donate to.

We recently gave this vehicle to this client!
He has been without a vehicle for a long time and has been depending on others to get him where he needs to go. It's great to be able to give seniors their mobility back! When he first applied I had told him some things he needed to do in preparation to be able to receive a car so he worked at it and did everything, he's now in a good position as a car owner and he wants to do everything he can to make sure the car stays in good shape.

This car was given to us from a lady's estate after she passed. She had bought this Ta**us brand new in 2001 and had not driven it very much, so our client is the second owner of a very nice car. We are very grateful to the family for this generous donation, thank you!

We have received several cars over the years from estates. Both from people who left final instructions to give their vehicles to us and from families looking for a place to donate their loved ones vehicle. We're thankful for anyone who is thinking about this kind of donation. If you are thinking about this, there are a few different ways of doing this and none of them are difficult. We can help you through it and it would be a great blessing to someone like our client in the picture. Thank you!

We had good timing the other day. A senior came over the other day for me to check her oil and when she was ready to go I got in her car to back it and the starter just clicked. Her battery was dead and too old so we put a new battery in for her. If she had gone anywhere else other than our shop she probably would have had to have her car towed. She lives in another town so her transportation is very important to her, I'm glad we were able to help. God's timing is great!
