The past two weeks have been a bit slow, rising fuel prices definitely affect the flow of business, especially with almost all of ours being fully mobile, but things seem to be leveling off, and we are gearing up for a busy week! Swapping the valve body in this Subaru CVT transmission, then pulling the pan for filter and fluid swap. The pan got all new hardware after several of them had to be extracted.

2021 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins. Customer called about a loss of power, heavy smoke from the exhaust, multiple check engine codes but nothing conclusive. This is where real diagnostics comes into play. It took a bit of in depth testing but the problem was obvious once the valve cover came off for top end inspection. The intake valve pushrod for cylinder #1 was lodged between the rocker arm and the cylinder head pushrod tube because the rocker arm tip shattered under tension. It'll be getting a new rocker arm, pushrod, and an engine oil flush to be certain no metal pieces make it into other parts of the engine. We will also be checking torques on all rocker arms just to be on the safe side.

This was an interesting job. The call came in and the issue was described as 2008 Cadillac Escalade AWD "no start on inclines, possible fuel pump problem", scanning showed multiple systems being affected, fuel pump control module fault, oxygen sensor fault, brake light fault, oil pressure sensor fault, to name a few. The fuel pump control module and wiring were the main concern. During testing it was noted that the FPCM was showing a fault to ground under heavy braking, which then lead to the idea, something in the suspension or driveline was causing a short to ground. Got the vehicle off the ground and the damage was easy to spot, the wire loom disintegrated over the years as it's prone to do, leaving the wiring loose enough to come into contact with the front driveshaft. Repaired the wiring, secured it away from the driveline and no more check engine light or starting issues. The kicker is the codes all pointed to certain sensors or modules, without proper diagnostics, this could have been an expensive repair. Lesson of the day, have diagnostics done by a reliable mechanic, it could save you a lot of money and headaches.
