MKE 300 SEASON RECAP!! 🏁
Man what a year!! Before anything else, THANK YOU to every racer, spectator, sponsor, volunteer and everyone who supported us this season. You guys showed up for us in a big way and I appreciate it more than you know!
When we first started this, we didn’t know a whole lot about putting on something like this, but we knew what we wanted to do. Bring back street drags and try to make it better than ever! I loved it back when I had my Mustang. I would go through two 20lb bottles in a night 😂 It was local, stoplight style racing, lining up against similar cars and getting right back in line to do it again. Fast paced, action packed and just a good time.
I felt like there were a lot of people willing to race who didn’t necessarily want to go spend a day at the drag strip. We wanted to give them a fun way to bring their cars out, get a bunch of laps in and enjoy some good competition.
I’m not gonna lie, figuring out what each event would cost was scary. I had never hosted an event this big and honestly had no idea how many people would show up or race. If only a few cars and spectators came, I could’ve been out a lot of money and I wasn’t sure where things would go from there.
But I started asking around the racing community, and almost everyone we talked to helped in one way or another. The support was more than I ever expected. Our sponsors took a gamble on our vision before anyone knew how this would turn out. They didn’t know if people would come, I didn’t either, but they believed in it and helped us get it going. Without our sponsors we could not have done this at all. I truly mean that. THANK YOU!
Then that first Friday event came and it was insanely busy!! We hoped people would show up, but we were definitely not expecting that. We had all new volunteers helping and we were learning as we went. To everyone who jumped in, gave their time and helped us figure things out, thank you. We needed you that first night and throughout the whole season, and I’m so thankful we had the help we did.
We had some challenges along the way too. The smoke and rough air quality from the fires at one event, then the blistering heat at the third. Those definitely weren’t ideal conditions, but people still came out and supported us. I really appreciate everyone who spent those nights with us and brought their cars out to race!
State Fair was a pleasure to work with all season. Will, the track manager, was awesome to deal with and went out of his way to help us when he didn’t have to. A huge thank you to him and his team for working with us and helping make these events happen!
Each event we adjusted the rules, times and classes to better fit the cars showing up and make the competition better. It’ll never be perfect, but we’re always trying to do what works best for the majority. I know some changes meant certain cars couldn’t fit in, and I’m sorry we couldn’t make it work for everybody. Thank you for being patient with us while we learned and made changes along the way.
We also wanted some nicer trophies. Something people could proudly display for winning their class and be excited to come out and race for! We didn’t start out planning cash payouts because we honestly didn’t know if we’d even have money left at the end of all this.
But that last race, we went all out and so did our sponsors! Big checks, big trophies and wads of cash!! A bunch of local businesses came on board and donated cash toward different classes, and we appreciate every one of you who helped make that happen. People definitely loved those big checks and cash, and it was such a fun way to finish the season!
And to everyone who bought merch that I made, THANK YOU!! That really is one of the best ways to support me personally. It’s so cool seeing people wear it too. Getting sent pictures of our stickers on cars or somebody wearing an event shirt out in public always brings a smile to my face. I appreciate every bit of that support.
Was this easy? No.
Was it time consuming? Yes.
Did I spend hours making flyers and rules that some of you definitely didn’t read? Yep 😂
Was this the most stress I’ve ever been under? Absolutely.
But was it worth it? 100%!!
Seeing everyone come out, have fun and support something we wanted to bring back made all that work worth it. I’m proud of what we put together this year and so thankful for everyone who helped us do it. Whether you raced, watched, volunteered, sponsored a class or bought a shirt, you were part of this season and we appreciate you!
Will we do it all again next year? YES!!
