I just wanted to make a PSA. It is cold. Real cold. Your car is made out of mostly metal and plastic, both of which react to the cold, the reasons for that were discussed in 8th grade science glass, and I wasnโt paying attention. Anyway, here is what you need to know about your car in the cold.
๐ Your tires will need air. The tire light is most likely not malfunctioning. Use a tire gauge and air them up to the specs on the sticker inside your driver door.
๐ Your car will take longer to heat up. Maybe 20 minutes or longer or driving for quite a distance. You wonโt have heat until you have some bars registering on the temperature gauge.
๐ Unplug all of your cell chargers when you reach your destination. They are pulling power your battery canโt spare.
๐ Your car is going to make noises and ride differently than when itโs warm. It is to be expected. To be honest, I made some noises when I walked out of the house today. ๐ฃ
๐ Do not put hot water on your windshield to thaw it. It will just crack.
๐ If your battery is more than 2 years old, it is probably on borrowed time.
๐Keep some gas your car. 1/4 tank at least, half is better.
๐Go to a good car wash (get the undercarriage wash) as soon as temp allows and as often as you can.
