The top speed on a 50cc scooter is about 45mph. And if you’re in the 200 club like me… 35 mph is ambitious. But the Genuine Buddy 170i is a small scooter with a 50cc look paired with a 170cc engine. In traffic means that means the difference between holding up traffic and swerving thru it. An adult on a buddy 170i can easily get to 65mph. Although I don’t advise it. Because the wheels are so close together, hitting a speed bump or pothole at speed could find you launched into the air.
That said, it does feel a lot better to ride in traffic because you have the ability to easily get out of the way.

Story time.
Years ago, On my 2k7 AN 400 for some reason the previous owner had put two of the thin nuts on the end of the CVT shaft. Well, one day when I was on the highway I heard a rattling sound. When the nut came to rest, it lodged itself between the CVT fan and the case. Everything came to a screeching halt at 70+mph. It destroyed the CVT, the weights, the fan, the inner and outer case and the speed sensor. Fortunately it didn’t break the main bearing. I got it back together thanks to
parts available on eBay.
I’ll never ignore a sound like that again.
