It’s coming to the end of the season at the Nature Park. We trim back most of the plants in the fall. Now for the leaves to drop. Enjoy this beautiful weather

This is a Nodding Onion which blooms from July-August. The blooms looks like an umbrella. This plant attracts bees and butterflies and is also deer resistant. The plant is also edible. You can chop the leaves for salad,soups and potatoes. The bulbs can be dug up and roasted, pickled or stir fries. Locate this plant in the Nature Park that is in the Richland County Fairgrounds.

This Native plant the Common Buttonbush has a white flower that looks like a pin cushion. It likes to grow in full sun to partial shade. The blooming season is from June through August. The bush will attract butterflies and bees. It can grow from 5 feet - 12 feet tall and wide. Come to the Nature Park and see this bush in bloom. You can see this on the outside of the park across from the big red barn.

This is a Starry Campion. Each white blossom has 5 leaves that are fringed. It grows 2-3 feet tall and can grow in shade to full sun. It will bloom July-September. You can see this along with over 200 other Native Plants in the Nature Park that is located inside Richland County Fairgrounds.

Narrowleaf Mountain Mint grows from 2-4 feet high. Their leaves look like thin needles. There is a minty aroma when the leaves are crushed. The leaves are used to make tea. You can see this plant in the Nature Park in the Richland County Fairgrounds

This is a Canada Lily. It prefers full sun and has a bell shape flower. They can be yellow to a deep orange/red. It grows 2-5 feet tall and blooms June and July. The bees and butterflies are attracted to it.

This is the Oakleaf Hydrangea. It prefers the morning sun and afternoon shade so consider that when planting this plant. It is a shrub that will grow 4-8 feet tall and wide. The leaves change to a deep red or orange in the fall. It is best to prune after it finish blooming in late summer.

Scarlet Red Bee Balm is from the mint family. The plant attracts hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and mosquitoes hate the smell.
The flower blooms from summer to fall. The plants need to be divided every 2-3 years to keep air flow through the leaves. Very acceptable to powdery mildew
Native Americans used the plants for teas to help colds,fever and skin issues.

Stop by the Nature Park and see what is in bloom. A perfect place to look at plants and flowers to see what you might like growing in your garden. Native plants will attract birds, bees, and butterflies.
