Job Description:
A Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and
repairing heavy machinery used in construction, mining, agriculture, and industrial operations.
This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
● Inspect, service, and repair heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers,
loaders, cranes, graders, and dump trucks
● Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical problems
● Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacement
● Repair or replace defective parts, engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems
● Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and technical drawings to troubleshoot issues
● Conduct preventive maintenance to reduce equipment breakdowns
● Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper operation and safety compliance
● Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
● Follow safety regulations and company procedures at all times
● Respond to emergency breakdowns on-site or in the field when required
Required Skills & Qualifications
● Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy equipment systems
● Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
● Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
● Problem-solving and attention to detail
● Physical strength and stamina to work in demanding environments
● Basic computer skills for maintenance reporting
● Good communication and teamwork skills
Education & Experience
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Certificate, diploma, or apprenticeship in heavy equipment or diesel mechanics
● 2+ years of experience preferred (entry-level positions may accept trainees/apprentices)
Work Environment
● Construction sites, workshops, mines, or industrial facilities
● Exposure to noise, grease, heavy lifting, and outdoor weather conditions
● May require shift work, overtime, or travel to job sites
