2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special

We started with our Driver’s Seat Memory Foam Modification, reshaping the driver seating area to better distribute the rider’s weight. We also lowered the riding position about half an inch, narrowed and reshaped the thigh area for better footing, and moved the rider forward approximately one inch.

The passenger area received our Wide Single Memory Foam Modification. We reshaped and widened the passenger seating area by approximately two inches, then rebuilt it using memory foam selected specifically for the passenger’s weight.

We didn’t stop there. We made a new custom-fitted cover with double-diamond stitching in both the driver and passenger seating areas, with all stitching done using our High Contrast S8 black thread. ASR Graphics handled the embroidery on the driver’s backrest area.

This one turned out great. Clean, classy, and subtle while still being completely custom.

It’s been a minute since we’ve posted any seat pictures!

We’ve been putting a lot of our focus into renovating and freshening up the shop over the past few weeks, but that definitely doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy working on seats.

Here’s a 2015 Harley-Davidson Ultra that came through the shop for our Ultra D&B modification. We moved the driver seating position lower and back, plus added our two-layer memory foam setup to give the rider more room and improve overall comfort.

Because this modification removes the driver’s backrest slot and moves the riding position so far back, we also make a new custom-fitted cover to fit the seat’s new shape.

As always, our goal is to make the seat fit the rider better while maintaining that clean factory look.

If your stock seat isn’t providing the comfort you desire, give us a call at 866-550-SEAT (7328) or send us an email at [email protected]. We’ll be glad to discuss what we can do to make your seat a more enjoyable ride.

Shop update. We’ve got three walls freshly painted and have moved a lot of the clutter that’s accumulated over the years out of the showroom.

One more wall to go. We’ve already started on it, but this one is going to take a little time. There’s a lot of tedious trim work to knock out.

It’s coming together, and we’re really liking the direction it’s headed.

Shop Renovation Update 🛠️

Two showroom walls are officially done, and today we’re starting on wall number three.

It definitely feels like this project has been dragging on, but we’re making steady progress. Once this wall is finished, we can finally start adding some of the new features we’ve been planning for the showroom.

Still plenty to do, but it’s starting to come together. Stay tuned — the cool stuff is coming next. 🔥

2025 Harley-Davidson Road Glide seat is finished up and ready to ride.

We gave the driver our Double Decker modification while keeping the rider in the factory seating position. The passenger section was left unmodified.

We finished it off with a new custom cover featuring black carbon fiber around the driver’s seating area, along with double-diamond stitching in our S8 Orange UVR thread. The custom embroidery was done by ASR Graphics in Maiden and matched to the orange stitching, tying the entire design together.

And remember, we can build this look in virtually any material and color combination, so your seat can be tailored to match your bike and your style.

Sharp, clean, and custom without being overdone.

It’s all in the details.

We’ve been using high-contrast thread for our top stitching for so many years that I honestly can’t remember exactly when we started.

We use 92 high-strength thread to sew our seats together, which is already heavier than what we commonly see on factory seats. But when it came to top stitching, we wanted something that would really stand out.

That led us to much heavier high-contrast thread—and eventually to purchasing sewing machines specifically capable of handling it.

Today, we use S-8 thread for our top stitching. We like its woven construction, durability, UV resistance, clean appearance, and most of all, the way the colors POP.

The picture shows just a small sample of the colors we have available.

It may seem like a small detail, but the right thread and stitching can make a huge difference in the finished appearance of a motorcycle seat.

Around here, the details matter.

Sometimes the best custom work doesn’t scream for attention.

This 2011 Harley-Davidson Ultra seat that is being used on a 2019 Ultra received our Iron Butt modification. We moved the driver back as much as possible, reshaped the sitting area to better distribute the rider’s weight, and rebuilt it using three layers of memory foam selected for the rider’s weight.

The passenger area was also reshaped and rebuilt using our Double Decker memory foam setup while maintaining the stock riding position.

We also made a new cover using semi-perforated centers, double-diamond stitching in black, and our S8 High Contrast UVR black thread throughout. ASR Graphics in Maiden handled the embroidery on the driver’s backrest section.

The black-on-black combination gives the seat a subtle custom look — almost stock at first glance, but full of details when you look closer.

We can also do this in just about any color or material combination.

16 Years of “We Might Need That Someday” Finally Caught Up With Us 😂

For the past several weeks, when we haven’t been working on seats, we’ve been working on something else that was long overdue — our shop.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been in this building for over 16 years now. We moved here from a shop that was only around 1,000 square feet into this 2,400-square-foot building, and I remember thinking, Man, we’ll never fill this place up.

Well… apparently, we took that as a challenge. 😂

A few weeks ago, I stopped and really looked around and realized there wasn’t anywhere left to put anything. We’ve collected a LOT of stuff over the years. Things we use, things we used to use, and plenty of things that apparently fell into the category of “we might need that someday.”

Years ago, people would come into Mean City Cycles and tell us, “You guys have a nice shop.” Somewhere along the way, we stopped hearing that. And honestly, I was starting to get a little disgusted with the clutter and the overall appearance myself.

The truth is, we got busy. Really busy. We concentrated on building seats and taking care of our customers, and somewhere along the way, we neglected the building that has taken care of us for all these years.

So we decided it was time to do something about it.

We started cleaning.

Then we realized cleaning wasn’t going to be enough.

So we started painting.

Then one thing led to another… because apparently that’s how these projects work. 😂

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been cleaning out years of accumulated stuff, repairing walls, painting, replacing work surfaces, reorganizing, and trying to make the shop something we’re proud of again.

We’re still a long way from being finished, and we know this isn’t going to happen overnight. We still have plenty of cleaning, painting, organizing, and changing things around to do.

But for the first time in a long time, it’s starting to feel like our shop again.

This building has been pretty good to us. A whole lot of motorcycle seats have come through these doors over the last 16 years, and somewhere along the way, we got so busy taking care of everybody else’s stuff that we quit taking care of our own place.

So we’re fixing that — a little at a time.

We’ll keep you updated on the progress as the shop comes back together.

Not bad for 16 years of accumulated “we might need that someday.” 😆
