🛞 TIRE TIP TUESDAY: Understanding Your TPMS Sensors

Your vehicle’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) uses sensors inside the wheels to monitor tire pressure. If a tire becomes significantly underinflated, the system activates the warning light on your dashboard.

After a tire rotation, many vehicles require the TPMS sensors to be relearned so the vehicle recognizes each tire’s new position. If this step is not completed, your display may identify the wrong tire as being low. For example, it may indicate that the left-front tire is losing air when the low tire is actually in another position.

Some vehicles relearn the sensor positions automatically, while others require specialized TPMS equipment. Not every service location has the proper tool, so it is important to ask whether a TPMS relearn is included with your tire rotation.

TPMS sensors contain small, sealed batteries that eventually wear out. Because the sensors are typically the same age, when one begins to fail, the others may follow over time. This does not necessarily mean they must all be replaced immediately, but it is wise to have the entire system checked.

A TPMS warning light should never be ignored. It may indicate low tire pressure, a leaking tire, or a sensor that is no longer communicating properly.

Stop by Magazine Tire & Service Center and let our team help ensure your tires—and your TPMS system—are working properly.

🚘 Give Your Engine Extra Protection with Prolube!

Prolube Oil Treatment is added during your regular oil change and circulates throughout the engine with the fresh motor oil. It helps create a protective lubricating film on internal engine parts, reducing friction and helping the engine run cooler, quieter, and smoother. It is also designed to help loosen and remove deposits over time.

Why add it during an oil change? Starting with clean, fresh oil allows Prolube to mix evenly and provide protection throughout the entire oil-change interval. It does not replace motor oil or regular maintenance—it works alongside the correct oil for your vehicle.

Ask us about adding Prolube Oil Treatment at your next oil change at Magazine Tire & Service Center! 🔧🛢️

Why Is Your Engine Air Filter So Important?

Your engine air filter may be out of sight, but it plays a vital role in protecting one of the most expensive parts of your vehicle—your engine. Every time your engine runs, it needs a steady supply of clean air to mix with fuel for proper combustion. The engine air filter traps dirt, dust, pollen, sand, bugs, and other debris before they can enter the engine.

Over time, the filter becomes clogged with contaminants. When that happens, your engine has to work harder to pull in enough air, which can lead to reduced fuel economy, sluggish acceleration, rough engine performance, and, in some cases, increased engine wear. A severely dirty air filter can even contribute to a check engine light.

That’s why we inspect your engine air filter during your oil change. A quick inspection allows us to determine whether it’s still doing its job or if it’s time for a replacement. Replacing a dirty air filter is a simple, affordable maintenance item that helps your engine breathe easier, improves performance, protects internal engine components, and can even save you money on fuel in the long run.

A clean air filter means a healthier engine—and a healthier engine means a longer-lasting vehicle.

Why Is Rotating Your Tires So Important? 🛞

One of the simplest ways to get the most life out of your tires is by having them rotated regularly.

Your front and rear tires don’t wear the same. Front tires typically wear faster because they handle steering, most of the braking, and often more of the vehicle’s weight. By rotating your tires, you help each tire wear more evenly, which can:

✔️ Extend the life of your tires
✔️ Improve traction and handling
✔️ Provide a smoother, quieter ride
✔️ Help maintain better fuel economy
✔️ Reduce the chance of uneven wear that can lead to premature tire replacement

When should you rotate your tires?

We recommend rotating your tires every 5,000–6,000 miles.

A simple way to remember is:
🔹 Synthetic oil changes: Rotate your tires with every oil change.
🔹 Conventional oil changes: Rotate your tires every other oil change.

Don’t wait until your tires show uneven wear. Regular tire rotations are a small investment that can save you hundreds of dollars by helping your tires last as long as possible.

If you’re not sure whether your vehicle is due for a rotation, stop by Magazine Tire & Service Center. We’ll be happy to check your tire wear and help keep you safely on the road.
