Job title: Automotive Service Mechanic
Reports to: Manager, Shop Foreman, Service Advisor
Pay: $15 - $17 plus commission
Job Overview:
The Automotive Service Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering top-notch service to our customers.
Responsibilities:
-Perform diagnostic tests to identify vehicle issues and determine the appropriate course of action for repair.
-Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
-Repair and replace damaged or malfunctioning parts, components, and systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems.
-Inspect vehicles for wear and tear, leaks, and other potential problems, and provide accurate assessments to customers.
-Use computerized diagnostic equipment and software to pinpoint issues and generate repair recommendations.
-Interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and specifications to complete repairs and installations correctly.
-Test drive vehicles to verify repairs and ensure proper operation before returning them to customers.
-Maintain accurate records of all repairs, including parts used, labor hours, and diagnostic findings.
-Stay current on industry advancements and updates by participating in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
-Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to create a safe working environment for yourself and others.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Completion of a vocational or technical training program in automotive repair is strongly preferred.
-Proven experience as an Automotive Mechanic or similar role, with at least three of hands-on experience in vehicle repair and maintenance.
-Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in diagnosing and repairing various automotive systems and components.
-Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
-Ability to use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.
-Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
-Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.
-Willingness to work flexible hours, including holidays, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
-ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in one or more areas (e.g., Engine Repair, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems).
-Previous experience working in a fast-paced automotive repair shop or dealership.
-Knowledge of automotive diagnostic software and computerized systems.
-Experience with welding, fabrication, and custom modifications.
-Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers.
Physical Requirements:
-Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
-Bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
