Inner fenders are out so they can be painted the proper satin black color. Battery tray is wasted from rust.

Found this gem on the bottom of the passenger front fender. They just welded a piece of metal over a rust hole which created a bulge and then filled it with filler. This made the bottom of the fenders contour way off which led to a misalignment of the door to fender. This would have rusted out after I painted it and would have come back on me because they didnt weld thru prime anything. This is why you strip everything to bare metal when doing completes. It covers my butt and the customers in the long run.

When I first got this car in after looking at it with the faded single stage paintjob on it, I told the owner I could probably get the color really close but the clearcoat was going to change the color on the faded parts after the blend when I spotted in the hood. The paint was thin and I told him it reminded me of a MAACO paint job. I found filler on the drivers side door and chased it and it turned into a canyon of disaster. Just a fill and go. No metal work or anything. Probably explains why the panel match from the door to fender wasnt very good. Incompetent work to say the least.

67 Chevelle Update: panel matched taillight housings to qtr panel. Digging out old drip rail seam sealer to get rid of some minor rust. Found a thin coat of filler in the pass. qtr panel. So far Im only finding one paint job on this car. Definetly isnt the factory paint but it seems like whoever put this really cheap paintjob on it stripped it to bare metal first. So far I havent found anything really bad. Its still early though.

The paint on the 67 Chevelle is old and its a single stage paint that has been buffed to its limit. There are thin spots in it where primer is starting to show through. I told the owner before I started the job that I was worried about the paint matching after I spotted in the new hood. He understood and wanted to try anyways. The only things that got new color, were the new hood and the tops of the fenders and the cowl and the middle of the side of the pass fender. The rest just got the new clear. The difference between the new clear and the old paint wasnt acceptable to me. The car has some panel alignment issues and a few other things that need to be addressed so the owner came over yesterday and decided we are just going to redo the whole car and fix it the way it should be done. I spent about an hour tinting the color around to try and adjust it for the fade in the paint and I did get it incredibly close, so close that you couldnt even see a paint dob from a few feet away on the old paint. The new clearcoat just took the old paint on the fenders to a newer level that didnt match the rest of the car. So we will make it super nice and car show worthy now.
