in 2014, 324 youth and adults scaled hay bales, climbed six and eight-foot A-frame walls, low-crawled through a muddy creek bed, flipped 200 pound tires, jumped in mud pools, and traversed a balance beam -- all while running 3.1 miles through plantation lands which were once part of Thomas Jefferson’s Bedford County retreat. The water slide at the finish was a last minute addition which added to
the fun, and helped wash away at least one layer of mud! The free children’s course was a hit with kids ages 10 and under, and allowed them to test their skills and coordination jumping through tires, scaling small hay bales and A-frame walls, hula hooping and running through cones. The program encourages children to view physical activity as important and enjoyable and is a great way to involve the entire family in an active and fun morning. Proceeds from the event support the 2014 Jamerson Family YMCA Community Support Campaign and children’s educational programming at Poplar Forest.
