Extremely busy day at the shop today!

Started the day off working on the motor swap 350z project. Went ahead and pulled the rack to replace once I get new tie rod ends tomorrow, and made the final touches to get the motor ready to come out. Only a couple bolts, couple fuel rails, and the wiring harness and the current motor will be out. Going JDM HR for the replacement, and will be getting a custom Import Transition tune as well using UpRev!

Next I met with a customer with a VA WRX that is looking to get into modifying and tuning the vehicle. This specific car is pretty high mileage so he’s going to bring it in for a whole inspection and compression test before he installs intake/downpipe/EBCS and a Cobb Accessport and we get a solid tune done with MiG tuning.

After that a long term tuning customer with a Coyote F150 stopped by. Trying to deal with an obvious header issue on his aftermarket headers, I had sent him to other shops to get it checked out but they ended up retuning the vehicle and getting the same idle issues with less power. So looks like I’ll be removing the headers on the truck, inspecting gaskets and making a decision on whether they will be reinstalled with proper gaskets or OEM is going back on.

Finished up the day taking a trip to Port Arthur to get a K20 RSX ready to get tuned. Car is freshly put together and it seems like they did a great job. Just need to get the wideband installed into the KPro V4 and they will get the Import Transition Honda secret sauce!

Seems like the area really missed me while I was gone. All glory to God for getting me in front of these new customers, the Import Transition family is growing by the day!

2016 M6 Grand Coupe- Project Gamma Bolt Ons

Previous Shops: 1 in Lake Charles

Story: The owner of this car reached out to me to verify the tune in his car, after he paid the shop for a custom dyno tune. His car was there over 3 months, and no dyno results were shown. Originally the car was supposed to be tuned on MHD+ but at the last minute the shop owner flipped to BM3. Anyone who knows BMW tuning should know this is an immediate red flag. The previous shop owner refused to communicate details about the car and left the owner in the dark with a massive bill.

Outcome: This car was never attempted to be custom tuned. It’s running the BM3 OTS Stage 2 with incompatible mods. In order for me to complete the custom tune we must order MHD+ like originally planned and start fresh. BM3 has no features due to the DCT transmission that we will utilize so it was a complete waste.

Once the MHD arrives we will complete the custom tune tailored exactly to the owners driving style in one day. The car will never need to be left at the shop and the owner will be able to drive home in a completely different feeling car than he drove here on!

Today’s Tune:
2013 V6 Camaro- 225k miles, transmission tune only after transmission replacement.

Nothing really crazy with this tune, customer recently got his rear end and transmission changed and wanted a little extra out of the trans.

Dialed in shift times, torque reduction, and shift scheduling to make the car exactly what the customer wanted.

Long term plans to do some crazy stuff with the motor, so I gave a discount for this initial transmission tune.

Completed in 3 revisions, just under an hour. Customer left thrilled and excited to drive his car again!

It’s time to have an honest conversation about the tuning industry in the Golden Triangle. I’ve kept my mouth closed, as lately more and more American made vehicles are brought to me to fix other people’s tunes. I’ve noticed a major trend, and it’s time to speak about it.

Issues:

1. People are paying for “custom tunes” and getting a one size fits all “known good tune” instead. This is self explanatory, your not getting what you paid for as there is no time and labor involved in flashing an off the shelf file.

2. People are not allowed to witness the tuning process. I don’t even know what to say about this, what is being hidden and why?

3. On lightly modified vehicles, extremely aggressive transmission tunes are being loaded up to make the vehicle seem faster and make the tune feel like it had the value for the money paid. On Ford and GM vehicles with known issues with valve bodies and torque converters you’re playing a dangerous game that’s expensive. Reducing wear and tear on the trans should be a top priority if your not going for every last second in the 1/4 mile and really whose actually doing that?

4. This almost summarizes the other 3 points. Tuners are putting the tunes on vehicles like it’s their own vehicle, not following instructions and requests. At the end of the day any competent tuner should be able to deliver on every request you have. Now is every request the right thing to do? Absolutely not, but if you want to shoot flames with a ghost cam idle, with stock shift feel and maximum power out of the motor it’s very easily possible. Just understand there is risks and wear and tear associated with it. And I will explain them to you, and have you acknowledge responsibility for whatever long term damage occurs.

Here’s how I’m different:

I will always complete the tuning process with you, ideally with you driving and me sitting passenger.

I will never stop the tuning process until you’re 100% satisfied with your tune, I don’t care if it takes me 2 hours or 20.

I will always tell you what each revision is going to change, before each revision is done. If you’re interested I will teach you what I’m doing and how I’m doing it as well. My tunes will always be unlocked and transparent.

Going forward, I’ll be posting each vehicle I tune. The style of tune going on the vehicle. And HOW MANY local shops the customer went to before he came to me. I don’t feel like calling names out is right, but the people who speak negatively about me and it comes right back to me? Yeah I hear you and I’m laughing trust me.

Y’all miss me yet? I’ve reached out to people who’ve messaged me about needed work, I have a line of sight to scheduling in Beaumont already if I somehow missed you please shoot me a message. Should be back to normal there within a week.

For those curious, invested, interested or following along. The major goal of the hiatus was to create the foundation of expansion, put myself and my brand in a larger market. While there is still a lot of work to be done, my task at hand here is finished, and I’ll be able to handle the rest of the process of opening a second location while being back in Beaumont supporting my existing customers.

To those who were left in the dark or given a brief explanation, I appreciate the understanding but y’all weren’t going to get rid of me that easy.

If you’re waiting to schedule work in Beaumont, I’d get on the schedule soon! I honestly expect my work volume to 2x-3x very shortly and anticipate having some wait times once both locations are open and operational.

TLDR: We will be back to normal by next week, with hopefully something exciting and interesting to share shortly regarding expansion!

As a heads up in person work will be going on a hiatus for a couple months.

Tuning remotely will still continue as normal, and for local customers remote tuning will be utilized more.
