☆☆☆ SUMMER READY ☆☆☆
For anyone who tows, nothing is worse than a planned trip being cut short due to mechanical breakdown of their trailer. Scheduling annual maintenance and service is critical to save on costly repairs and avoid breakdowns! Give The Trailer Dr., LLC a call today! We will make sure your trailer is ready for the adventures ahead.
We have a multi-point inspection to ensure everything on your trailer is safely operational to save you expensive costly repairs or roadside breakdowns. We would like to highlight an often overlooked yet critical component to all trailers…the bearings!
Most costly problems can be avoided with annual maintenance by a professional who is trained in identifying major points of wear and the specialized skills to do the job correctly. Proper maintenance of your trailer’s bearings could save you thousands in costly repairs.
Trailers can unknowingly take a substantial amount of abuse, depending on the environmental conditions. Road debris, uneven terrain, heavy loads, and moisture/humidity are just a few culprits that put your trailer to the test. Boat trailers have the added environmental abuse from salt corrosion when being submerged to launch your boat. The vital components that ensure your trailer rolls smoothly down the road are the same ones that absorb and sustain the most abuse. Trailer bearings need to be properly greased with quality grease. Wheel bearing grease prevents metal-to-metal contact, absorbs the heat from friction created by the wheel revolution, and prevents moisture from getting in the bearings. Bearings are made of hardened steel; therefore, they can rust very quickly from even a small amount of moisture (sometimes as fast as overnight). Hubs that are overpacked can cause the seal to fail, which can allow the grease to sling out and allow damaging debris in the hub. Bearings that aren’t properly maintained can irreparably damage the hubs and axle or cause complete tire & wheel separation from the trailer.
We recommend that you have a minimum annual hub repack with your maintenance inspection. If you tow often and/or with a heavy load, you need to plan a more frequent servicing. Whether towing your boat, equipment, or horses, annual maintenance is the key to ensuring your safety!

NATIONAL TRAILER SAFETY WEEK
IT'S THE LAW
☆ Florida law requires ALL trailers to have proper lighting including stop lights, tail lights, license plate lights, clearance lights and working turn signals. Trailers that are 80" wide or wider must have the appropriate taillights with wider side lights and fender lights.

☆ Trailers MUST be equipped with safety chains and tie-down straps in case of hitch failure.

☆ Trailers weighing more than 3,000 lbs. must be equipped with brakes that act on ALL wheels. If you are towing a trailer that weighs more than 3,000 pounds, the law requires breakaway brakes to stop the towed vehicle in case of unplanned disconnection.

☆ Trailers weighing less than 2,000 lbs. must be registered with the county tax collector. Trailers weighing 2,000 lbs. or more must be registered and titled.
