FasterSkunk Racing

FasterSkunk Racing FasterSkunk Racing is an organization created for trackside support, coaching, and build assistance.

While we do focus heavily on Volkswagen/Audi, we won't shy away from other makes or models.

We are busy bees this week as we get ready for the next Hillclimb in the SCCA Appalachian HillClimb Series Presented by Summit Racing at Brushy Mountain!

As we load the Fit Show and the Audi aka the Four Ring Circus, our brains are doing the *what are we forgetting* dance.

From there the truck, trailer, and Audi head to Colorado! *PHEW!*

What a week it has been... and it is only Wednesday 🫠

CJM Industries Aero, led by Chris, has officially taken on one of motorsport’s greatest engineering challenges: building a Pikes Peak aero package capable of surviving both the mountain and Rob.

What started as “we should probably make more downforce” rapidly escalated into a full-scale science experiment involving revisions, enhancements, reinforcements, contingency plans, structural updates, airflow analysis, and several late-night conversations that likely began with:

“So… what exactly did Rob hit this time?”

Chris has now spent enough time studying the FasterSkunk Audi to qualify as both an aero engineer and a forensic crash investigator.

The current CJM Industries package includes:
• revised splitter mounting systems
• enhanced chassis support
• reinforcement provisions
• anti-flex countermeasures
• aerodynamic efficiency upgrades
• vibration mitigation
• “please stop breaking this” gussets
• and approximately 47 pounds of hardware dedicated solely to preventing Rob from accidentally converting downforce into interpretive sculpture.

Every new version somehow follows the same cycle:
1. Rob drives the car
2. Physics files a complaint
3. Chris redesigns the part stronger
4. Rob says “okay but what if more angle?”
5. Repeat until summit.

At this point the aero package isn’t just engineered for Pikes Peak.
It’s engineered specifically around Rob’s ability to discover loads previously unknown to mankind.

The truly impressive part?
It works.

The Audi keeps getting faster.
The aero keeps making more grip.
The revisions keep getting smarter.
And Chris somehow keeps answering the phone every time the text starts with:
“Hey buddy, quick question…”

Massive appreciation to Chris and CJM Industries Aero for helping turn the FasterSkunk Audi into a proper mountain weapon through endless revisions, enhancements, and increasingly creative provisions designed to help Rob not break stuff. Again.

Couldn’t be more proud to head there with not only the team of drivers listed, but 4 crews, and the families who know what it means to compete with a purpose higher than any one individual.

This goal is winning with awareness.

One month from today, FasterSkunk Racing will take on one of the most legendary motorsports challenges in the world — the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (Official Site).

From the start line at 9,390 feet to the summit at 14,115 feet, this race to the clouds pushes both driver and machine to the absolute limit. With 156 turns and no room for mistakes, the mountain demands everything.

Our team has been working hard preparing for the climb, and we’re excited to represent our partners, supporters, and the entire racing community on the mountain.

In just 30 days, FasterSkunk Racing heads to Pikes Peak.

Follow along as we count down to race day.
The mountain is calling. 🏁⛰️

From the mind of Rob:

I really need to stop with the sappy posts… but we also haven’t been terribly public about a major issue we ran into with the car.

Turns out, when we originally built the cage for the Audi, we built it to Sports Car Club of America spec. The problem? Pikes Peak requires additional tubing thickness in certain areas, meaning the cage technically wasn’t compliant for the mountain.

There have been a few moments during this whole journey where the imposter syndrome has hit me pretty hard. Why am I the one who gets to do this? Why does our little chaos-fueled skunk team deserve this level of support?

Last week was one of those moments.

Ironically, it was Josh from Babyface Fabrication who caught the issue while digging deeper into the rules. Ultimately, that responsibility falls on me, and I fully own missing it.

What happened next honestly blew me away.

I don’t know what Josh and Gina had planned for the last six days, but I know they absolutely moved mountains for us. In less than a week, they managed to get an entirely new cage into the Audi, add additional reinforcement bars, build the fuel cell mount, fabricate a firewall, and knock out a pile of other details that suddenly became “must happen now” items.

That level of support is hard to put into words.

This whole Pikes Peak effort has reminded me over and over that race cars may be built out of steel, aluminum, and bad financial decisions… but race programs are built out of people.

Huge thanks to Josh and Gina at BabyFace Fabrication for the insane amount of support, craftsmanship, and what appears to be a deeply personal grudge against sleep!
