I have forgotten the simple joy of the "trail ride". Any worries or troubles melt away when you are as one, with your horse, in nature. I went out on my "old lady horse" Ryder (TB) and my neighbor Cassidy rode Keaira (Canadian Horse) my foster horse. Didn't go far, but took the lower trail next to the Fraser River in Abbotsford, British Columbia and back up on the d**e for the ride home. Mosquitoes were quite nasty despite repellent applied before leaving. The joy of being up on a horse, even at my age (70), well, that thrill never leaves me...Ryder is 21 and Keaira is 25. This is when I feel peace and contentment. Sounds corny...but if you know...you KNOW...right?

I trust this mare with my life. She’s been off for over a year. She got a leg Injury it healed she got the all clear but i had become too busy with the babies (horses) to bring her back into work. Then out of no where Had to saddle her up to go find some donkeys and a neighbors puppy that got lost after a big storm. I knew she hadnt worked or been ridden In Almost a year but the babies would have killed me before we even got to the road and I just knew I could rely on her. Couldn’t find her bridle so just grabbed a halter, and some old reins. She didn’t mind one bit. We found the dog and donkeys. I joke she did it by herself and she just let me tag along because she really did. I had no info besides they were spotted near an old logging road. She took me right to them through fallen trees, thick brush piles, mud. Steep hills, everything except water (she’ll jump over a creek but won’t step foot in a puddle😂) this mare is worth her weight in gold.

My last ride on him in The Netherlands before we moved abroad. We couldn’t leave him behind so he moved with us. I barely got to ride him again and in the end had to let him go a while back due to his physical issues. He was truly special ❤️ This is the most beautiful sunset we ever watched together, as if he knew. 🤍💫🕊️

BTE of my green mustang mare 5 minutes before she spooked hard at a boogeyman (leaf?), bolted and bucked my butt into the dirt. It knocked me out cold (thank goodness I was wearing a helmet!!) and resulted in an ER visit to find both ligaments in my shoulder torn in two, a grade III separated shoulder. I’m now out of commission for months to heal. Will it rock my confidence? Yes. Bad falls are scary. But when I’m healed, we will just start slow again. At 42 years old, I sometimes ask myself if I’m too old to be starting green horses- but you know what? People can get hurt walking across their kitchen and slipping. Horses are such a passion and I’m doing what I love. I know I’m definitely a bit shaken in my confidence, but here’s hoping we can pick up where we left off in the spring. ❤️
