Jack Thayer was a real 17-year-old first-class passenger aboard the RMS Titanic in 1912. When the ship sank, he jumped into the freezing Atlantic Ocean and survived by reaching the overturned Collapsible B lifeboat. His father perished in the disaster, but Jack and his mother survived.

The navigation bridge of the RMS Titanic was the central command and control center of the ocean liner, located at the forward end of the Boat Deck.

On the night of April 14, 1912, First Officer William Murdoch received the iceberg warning from the crow's nest. From the bridge, Murdoch ordered the helm "hard-a-starboard" and telegraphed the engine room to reverse engines. Following the collision, the bridge remained the hub for assessing damage, managing lifeboat deployments, and dispatching distress signals via the Marconi wireless room nearby.

At around 2:25 a.m., a thin haze hung over the area where RMS Titanic had disappeared. The once-calm Atlantic was now covered with floating debris—wooden planks, crates, chairs, and countless fragments scattered across the surface.

People who had been thrown into the freezing water were desperately calling for help, clinging to pieces of wreckage and to one another.

The rapid deterioration and formation of icicle-like structures called rusticles are caused by metal-eating bacteria (Halomonas titanicae), saltwater corrosion, and powerful deep-sea currents.

Experts estimate that the entire wreck will slowly disintegrate over the coming decades due to this natural process.
