I know I am a broken record about this, but I cannot stress proper storage of your gas powered equipment enough. Both of my generators were stored with rec fuel (zero ethanol) and neither has been started since early spring. When we lost power Tuesday night, I got my generator out, connected the cord and it started right up. My other generator started right up on Wednesday morning. By “started right up”, I mean it started on the first or second pull. I know it costs more than regular pump gas, but it doesn’t cost more than generator repair, and being without power and without generator.

Store with rec fuel, start every 6 months for 15 minutes!

Tip of the day. If your car has keyless entry and you rarely/never use your key to enter the vehicle, you should purchase some Lock-Ease or other lock cylinder lubricant and do a little preventative maintainenance on your lock cylinder. Lubricate the cylinder and cycle the key multiple times. In the event that your key fob battery dies, you don’t want to be stuck with a frozen lock cylinder!

Pro Tip: when buying a Toro snowblower used, or deciding if yours needs service, look for the paddle wear indicator hole. If the hole is missing, the paddles are worn down below the point of needing replacement. Also check your scraper bar. If the snowblower side covers are close to (< 1/8”) or touching the ground, the scraper needs replacement.

Here’s an interesting small engine repair for you guys. , 8hp Briggs that acts like its running pig rich and carb was leaking. I replaced the carb and no difference. Maybe the coil is bad and causing a misfire. Get a coil and replace that. Same thing.

As it’s running I remove the air filter and air box and as soon as I remove the air box/backing plate for the carb, it straightens right out. I put it back on and as soon as I install the crankcase vent elbow, it runs bad. I shut it off and check the oil....

There is so much gas in the crankcase from the original carburetor leaking that it’s drawing in the fuel v***r and causing it to run rich.

I think I had this happen one other time on a craftsman snowblower with a Lifan (Predator) engine. But I replaced the carburetor and changed the oil at the same time so not sure what fixed it.

Something to keep in mind for a rich condition.
