Ford called the 1926 cars the Improved Fords, dropping the frame and reshaping the bodies so the Model T finally sat low and looked the part. Hot rodders spotted that potential decades later, when Norm Grabowski's chopped-down T kicked off the bucket craze in the mid-1950s. The shape has been a blank canvas ever since.

This one takes the idea seriously. A twin turbo 5.3L V8 sits out front, backed by a TH350 three-speed automatic, with open headers making sure everyone knows it. Iron Oxide paint over black vinyl, four wheel disc brakes and air ride in the rear, so it stops and rides as well as it runs.

In 1964 the GTO wasn't a model at all. GM had banned big engines in its intermediates, so Pontiac buried the 389 in an option box on the LeMans order form, a loophole the review committee only applied to new models. Management capped it at 5,000 cars. Pontiac built 32,450, and only 6,644 of those were convertibles.

This one is a tribute built the way a lot of people wish the originals had been. The 389 V8 stays, but a Tremec TKX five speed goes behind it, so the gearing suits modern roads. Power steering, front discs, a power top and air conditioning handle the rest, with Bluetooth audio in the dash.

Porsche engineered its own annular disc brakes for Formula 1, then passed the patents to Teves, who supplied the 356 C's four wheel discs under a Dunlop license. The only exterior tell was a new flat-face hubcap, since the old drum-era hubs were gone. The SC topped the range with 95 horsepower, the strongest pushrod engine Porsche had built to that point.

This Irish Green 356 is the real SC, numbers matching, with discs front and rear and the four speed manual. Black leather inside, 63,845 miles believed actual. A clean example of the 356 at its most developed, built the same year the 911 arrived.

1996 was a turning point for GM's half-ton trucks. That year the Vortec engines arrived with new heads, roller cams and OBD-II diagnostics, and the 5.7 L31 that came with them turned out to be the last of the Gen I small-blocks. The GMT400 body had been around since 1988, but under the hood it was a fresh start.

This Sierra 1500 takes that idea further. A built 6.0L V8 with EFI sits up front, backed by a floor-shift four-speed automatic, with performance brakes front and rear and a lowered stance to match. It shows 4,175 miles since the build, finished in white over tan with LED lighting and a short bed.

Chevrolet put cast aluminum knock-off wheels on the 1963 Sting Ray option sheet as RPO P48. The castings came out porous and let air past tubeless tires, and no record exists of a production '63 leaving the factory wearing them. Wheels have been the first thing owners change on these cars ever since.

This one settles the question with Foose rims and side exhaust under black paint. A 383 stroker V8 and a 4 speed manual give it more shove than any '63 left Missouri with, and Dakota Digital gauges track it all from the black and silver cabin. The top still folds by hand, exactly as it should.

Ford used the Mach 1 name a full decade before any Mustang wore it. It appeared in 1959 on the Levacar Mach I, a wheel-less levitating concept shown at the Ford Rotunda. The badge finally reached production in 1969, when the Mach 1 arrived as the new performance face of the redesigned Mustang, and the 428 Cobra Jet sat at the top of its engine list.

This one has that Cobra Jet under the hood, now running Edelbrock fuel injection and breathing through a Flowmaster dual exhaust. A 4 speed manual keeps you in charge of it. Acapulco Blue over a white interior is a sharp combination, and the air conditioning means you can actually enjoy the drive. It is ready to roll.

For 1964, Chevrolet pulled the fake grilles out of the Corvette hood but kept the recessed footprints where they sat, giving that single model year a hood all its own. Engineers spent the year quieting the car down with added insulation and revised body mounts. Ermine White carried over from 1963 as one of the year's paint choices.

This convertible wears that same Ermine White over a white vinyl interior, with a 327 V8 and a 3-speed automatic behind it. Foose rims fill the arches and four wheel power disc brakes handle the stopping. Add a tilt wheel, power steering and a manual top, and it reads show car until you drive it.
