This ‘66 Corvette was in the detailing lab for some strategic paint protection.

One area that constantly gets beat up on these mid-year convertibles is the rear deck lid where the convertible top and hardware contact the paint. Over time, that repeated movement can leave scuffs, haze, scratches, and wear marks in a very visible area.

Before protection, we gave the area a gentle polish to minimize the existing scuffing and clean up the finish without getting overly aggressive.

Then we installed 4 layers of Opti-Shield on the rear deck area for maximum protection.

This stuff is seriously cool.

Opti-Shield is essentially a liquid-applied sacrificial protection layer designed to help absorb abuse in high-contact areas while keeping the appearance clean and subtle. No bulky edges, no changing the body lines, and no obvious film transition lines on a classic car.

On this ’66 Vette, those multiple layers give the deck lid an added level of defense against the constant rubbing and movement from the convertible top assembly while helping preserve the finish underneath.

This BMW M5 came in for a proper refresh and protection package to bring the paint back to life while preserving the integrity of the aging paint system.

We performed:

* Single-stage paint enhancement to improve gloss, depth, and overall clarity
* Targeted spot correction in several higher-defect areas that needed extra attention
* Careful refinement work to reduce wash marring and bring consistency back to the finish
* Application of Opti-Coat Ultra Shine ceramic coating for added protection and easier long-term maintenance

Opti-Coat Optimum Polymer Technologies

Not every transmission that runs low on fluid is automatically junk.

This vehicle came in after the transmission pan had rotted through and leaked fluid out. The remaining fluid was badly burnt, but before condemning the unit outright, we used our Flo-Dynamics TSD450 transmission fluid exchange machine to perform a proper fluid exchange and give the transmission a fighting chance.

Using the machine’s dipstick mode, we were able to exchange fluid without disconnecting cooler lines or taking apart hoses. In the video, if you watch closely, you can actually see clean red fluid being pushed into the transmission, then the machine reverses direction and pulls out the dark, burnt fluid.

One thing many people don’t realize is that simply dropping the transmission pan generally only removes around 1/3 of the total fluid capacity. The rest remains inside the torque converter, valve body, cooler circuits, and transmission internals. A true transmission fluid exchange requires cycling fluid through the system with the engine and transmission pump operating.

The Flo-Dynamics machine also allows us to fully purge the machine between fluid types so we can properly service a wide range of transmission designs and manufacturer fluid specifications. It also keeps the old contaminated fluid and new clean fluid completely separated during the exchange process for a much cleaner, more controlled, and more surgical service procedure.

We’re going to start doing project spotlights for longer term vehicles we have with us! First up is this Chevy Nomad that has been with its owner for around 40 years, and after a lot of major work elsewhere at a couple shops, it’s here with us for the next phase - getting everything fully sorted and working together the way it should be.

At Portland Performance, we’re a true vehicle integrator. Outside of spraying fresh paint, we can handle a classic or specialty build from start to finish - powertrain, electrical, driveline, suspension, brakes, plumbing, EFI conversions, carburetor/distributor systems, fabrication, calibration, and final sorting.

Sometimes that means building a car from the ground up. Sometimes it means stepping in after other major phases are complete elsewhere and working through the details that make the difference. The difference between a vehicle that has a bunch of shiny new parts, and a vehicle that is truly professionally integrated and calibrated so it’s enjoyable to own and drive.

This Nomad is LS-powered and EFI-equipped, and we’re working through drivability, calibration, output speed sensor replacement, converter lockup diagnosis, starting and cooling fan concerns, power steering improvements, ride height, alignment, custom stainless exhaust, full-argon back-purged welding, muffler installation, and general inspection and verification throughout the vehicle.

It’s methodical work, but that’s the point. With a car that’s been owned for around 40 years and already has this much time, love, and money invested into it, the details matter.

Our goal is simple - when the owner gets it back, it needs to feel as good to drive or better than it looks, and it needs to be enjoyable to own.

We just had to get this 2011 Chevy Camaro SS with Red Jewel Tintcoat out in the sun where this color really comes alive- the camera does it no justice.

This car received our top paint correction and ceramic coating service:

2011 Chevy Camaro SS in Red Jewel Tintcoat, in for the best ceramic coating system we offer - Opti-Coat Pro3.

This color is absolutely gorgeous. Red Jewel Tintcoat shifts from a deep maroon metallic to a fiery orange depending on the light, but tintcoat finishes require very careful correction work to keep the color looking even, consistent, and proper.

We completed:
