Every now and then, you get some fantastic news in the auto body restoration world. A year or so ago, I was in Iowa near Villisca. So thought I’d drive to that small town and pop into a body shop for a look-see! Well, this was one of our past young employees from the mid 90’s. Derick Freshour. We knew he was back in his hometown raising his family. He had opened his own body shop and was doing well. So, as I walked in, I was unsure what to expect. It had been over 25 years since we had last seen each other. But within seconds, he recognized and greeted me, so I felt welcome! He showed me around his nice shop, and we talked, and I was filled in on that gap of time. Knowing we liked and worked on many rare vintage race and prototype cars, he mentioned this old BMW race car he and his friend found in a nearby barn! It was a thrilling story, to say the least, and we were happy for him in his find and his efforts in building a great name for himself in this trade! Even though he was out of our lives for a quarter of a century, we are still proud of his efforts and glad we were a part of his early development as a craftsman in the art of classic vintage vehicle restorations! This is just one of the reasons we are still here after 40-some years, hoping to find the next young, passionate car guy or gal who truly wants to make a name for themselves. Research the article if you enjoy stories like this barn find.
