The custom lightened blower for the Kawasaki KZ1000 2 Stroker project just came back from the polisher. Definitely looks ‘show quality’! Rick Dean (deanblowers.com) will be reassembling it and finishing off a few details before shipping it next week. Now I gotta ‘git’ to TN to pick up the chassis!

The next upcoming project entails preparing a head for the KZ 2T, which will be sent to Rick at HMP for his highly skilled refurbishment. This rare ‘81 GPZ 1100 port injected twin plug head boasts race porting, albeit the exhaust port is rendered inoperative. However, the cast-in injector ports are positioned to deliver a perfectly aimed spray of alky. The twin plugs will require decreased ignition advance, thereby promoting efficient flame front propagation within the large hemi-shaped chamber. The large size of the chamber should capture a considerable charge.

After researching various blowers including new modern screw blowers I decided to stick with a 3-71 ‘Jimmy’ as used originally on Jim Mangus’ KZ 2 stroke build. Rick Dean of Dean Blowers fame has whittled the heck out of the blower case, lightening it by 10 lbs, reproducing what Jim did back in ‘83. Now off to the polishing shop before Dean fits the rotors and heavy duty bearings. Going to be overdriving the hell outta it!

Cooking up some Piston Soup! Jim Mangus suggested I bring one of the new pistons up to 100° C and then slide it into the bore to check for rock and roll! Let the music begin.

The custom Wossner slugs for the Kwaka 2T project have arrived. I’ve machined and fondled hundreds of pistons and these are definitely top shelf from just an inspection stand point. Locating pins for the ring sets are at the rear of the keep them from snagging the exhaust port cut thru the liner and block. Anti-friction coating looks well applied. Pin boss is substantial as well. Jim Mangus told me that he was bending piston pins back in ‘83. The pins are only 11mm thick. Anyone got a set of Top Fuel pins? I’ve had custom pins made before so worse case. Also anyone have thoughts on teflon buttons vs. wire rings?

First time on I-95 with the Brig to correlate speed vs. rpm…figure what top speed is.. 70mph @ 2,250…. She should do 93 then .. hmm.. my ‘06 Pete would do 94… I remember Bernard telling me his Clipper would top out around 114mph or so.. bet I can find a 2 speed rear end with some low numerical gears.. and a turbo (she’s got turbo exhaust manifolds) .. head to a LSR meet up at Loring next spring.. but only with fresh steer rubber.. no blow outs at that speed!
