Pop the hood and find the serpentine belt. One belt drives your alternator, power steering, water pump, and A/C — if it snaps, everything quits at once.

You want to see clean ribs and no cracking, like this one. A glazed, cracked, or frayed belt on a used car is a tow truck waiting to happen, and it's a cheap fix the seller should have handled.

Two minutes under the hood. That's all it takes.

Buying used? Look through the wheels before you hand over money.

This rotor is telling a story: heat scoring on the surface, rust building on the hat. It still stops the car today — but a brake job is coming, and that's a few hundred dollars the seller should be accounting for.

A brake check takes five minutes. Buying someone else's deferred maintenance costs a lot more than that.

Hybrids aren't magic. They're just cars with an extra system — and that system needs a tech who isn't afraid of orange cables.

This hybrid drivetrain is out and on the pallet for service. Orange wiring means high voltage, which means training, proper procedures, and respect for the system.

A lot of shops turn hybrid work away. We don't.

Oil leaks don't fix themselves — they find the most expensive part to drip onto. Check your driveway, check your dipstick, and don't let "it's just a little leak" turn into an engine job.

How long did you drive on "just a little leak" before it got expensive?

Not every job is an engine pull. Most of the work happens right here — hands in the engine bay, replacing the small parts before they turn into big problems.

This is what thorough service looks like up close. The parts most people never see are the ones keeping the car on the road.

Skip the small maintenance and you'll meet the big repair bill sooner or later.
