We apologize in advance the process and bureaucracy are such a hassle, runaround, and goose chase. Some will be exempt the first year in the transition to "two steps, one sticker". This has been confusing for all involved, and we appreciate your patience. We hope you realize the government is involved and created this cluster and a lot of down time for us during the computer integration. It is not
our fault nor choice and has almost put us out of business. If your vehicle has a current inspection sticker when your registration becomes due, in some cases, you will not be required to renew your inspection during the transition period this year. Our portion of the mandatory State fee is a nominal $ 7.00 - pass or fail. It is required by Law that we collect this and it is the only way we are compensated. We are providing a service, and not "selling you a sticker or inspection". You will no longer receive an inspection sticker on your windshield, only a printed receipt, "proof of inspection." Please also understand why it is necessary to collect this in advance and why it would cost us too much to accept debit, credit cards, and checks. All of these methods of payments reduce the small amount we already receive because of bank fees, service charges, and unfortunately, the occasional returned check fee. Our profit margin is extremely small and any associated fees make it difficult for a small business to stay in business. Any vehicle that fails the initial inspection will have up to 15 days to correct the issues and return for a completed proof of passing inspection without having to pay again. (Please retain your receipt in the event of possible and inevitable computer malfunction.) You will be required to remit the additional $ 7.50 of the State's portion of the inspection cost at the time you renew your registration. You gotta have insurance and we need a printed copy with the policy period stated with a minimum of 30 days to enter when you come in. Electronic will do, but please, don't expect everyone behind you (including your inspector) to wait while you pull it up on your phone. Please have it ready before you pull inside and please don't block the bay door. We can provide "proof of out of State" inspections for y'all that are coming to live in God's Country for a mere $ 1.00 extra to transfer titles. Also available are emissions affidavits. They are a pain, but we can and will issue those, providing you can prove you will not be living in or operating your emission inspection required vehicle in our lovely area which we don't want to smell or look like Harris County. You can try and fool us, but if you do, chances are, you won't fool DPS and you will have to pay for another inspection with the required emission test and repairs you were trying to avoid. The lovely ladies doing your inspections are licensed professionals. Please do not ask them to jeopardize or compromise their ethics, morals, standards, or livelihood by intimidation, suggestion, criticism, bribe, or otherwise. They are expected to do inspections to the letter of the Law as outlined and defined by the State and will lose their job/license if caught not following the rules. If you have any doubt the correct criteria was used for your inspection, all information and items of inspection are available on the State's web page, black and white, NOT NEGOTIABLE. The process is frustrating for all involved. Having said all that, we appreciate your business and feedback. Please keep it clean and any criticism constructive. We want to improve your experience and help make this as painless for everyone as possible. If you are aware of a defect in your vehicle that will cause a "fail" situation, please resolve it before you bring it in and save us all a lot of misery. Please post any comments, concerns, complements, issues, suggestions, areas for improvement, etc... Thank You!
