2017 Lincoln MKC 2.0 - THIS IS A KNOWN COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE! It applies to various makes and models.

The cylinder heads develop a warp/defect over time that allows coolant to enter the cylinders on the engine. This can cause various issues, most commonly though it’s a rough start or idle, coolant loss, and overheating.

As you can see in the pictures, sticking a camera down in the cylinder while the system is pressurized shows the coolant leaking into the cylinder, which happens to be cylinder 1 on this vehicle. This will also cause misfire codes p0300-p0304, as well as overheating codes, p0217 and p1299.

Unfortunately there is no cheap or easy way to correct this issue. You either have to replace the cylinder head and gasket, or replace the engine.

As everyone knows by now, Hyundai engines are horrible. Here’s another example - P0014 and P0017. These are usually caused by the dowel pin on the exhaust CVVT sprocket shearing off into the camshaft. This causes the engine timing to change which will lead to poor running or a no start.

This requires replacement of the exhaust CVVT and the exhaust camshaft, as the pin gets stuck in the camshaft.

But like always, we can take care of it!

This video goes over how to bypass the GM Passlock 2 system on a 2000 chevy C3500, but this applies to any other vehicle with the Passlock 2 system.

IMPORTANT NOTES -
1. Anti-Theft DTC/code must be cleared from vehicle for this to work.
2. If the battery dies, procedure must be done again SO DO NOT THROW AWAY MODULE
3. If your module works intermittently, you can get the vehicle to start doing a key re-learn procedure, then unplug the module. This will cause the same fail-safe mode that allows vehicle to be started without passlock system in place.

Late 90s to early 2000s GM products use a anti-theft system known as Passlock. This system is known to have issues and was only used for a few years before GM stopped using it. The modules fail, the tolerances for the resistance of the key transponder are so tight that over time the keys fall out of spec and will leave you randomly stranded!

This system can be bypassed! But usually requires tearing the entire dash apart just to get the module. 🙄

Let us deal with the annoying things!

Modern vehicles typically have 30+ different modules throughout the vehicle that controls everything. From the interior functions to the drivability of the vehicle. Everything is monitored and controlled over different networks. These networks are typically known as the CAN high and the CAN low bus. Generally speaking, these two networks are opposites of each other and this can be seen. You can monitor them with something called an oscilloscope. This extremely useful tool can be used to diagnose a range of issues, but more specifically they're useful for hard to diagnose electrical issues!

WE LOVE ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND WERE EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH COMMUNICATION NETWORKS! Get the right diagnosis on that stubborn electrical gremlin!
