Feel Good Friday: Mr. Smiles - The Neat Freak, Servant Heart Leader
Y'all, I'm so excited to tell you about Mike Armstrong, our Paint & Body Manager in Las Vegas. It was very apparent that this man is very well loved from the minute I reached out to his team for input because everyone was so quick and eager to respond.

Astro, our Wash & Detail Manager, replied right away saying that "having Mike as part of our team has been great. Mike not only brings a great attitude every day, but he really knows what he’s doing! Since Mike took over Paint & Body, the difference has been noticeable."

I had to double check my memory, but Mike has been with us just under a year. His impact in that short amount of time has been impressive.

Astro said that "Mike came in with a full plate, and he’s been working hard to turn things around and make a positive impact. One thing that really stands out is the cleanliness and organization of the Paint & Body department. It’s truly a night and day difference, and it shows the pride Mike takes in his department. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for everything, Mike! I’m glad to have you on the team, and I really appreciate everything you’ve been doing. Great job, Mike, and thank you for everything! 👏”

I've said a few times in previous Feel Good Fridays that to me, a true measure of someone's impact can be found in how freely the guys he works with will express their gratitude and respect. That was certainly the case when it came to reading through all the messages that came in from all the boys in Vegas.

Our GM in Vegas, Paul Morrow, sent me a message that made me smile from the start. Paul said, "'Mr. Smiles' is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Mike. No matter what is happening—good or bad—he always has a smile on his face. When I learned Mike was selected for this week’s Feel Good Friday, I knew the recognition was well deserved. In his 11 months with NIRVC, Mike has brought his extensive collision industry knowledge and has made a meaningful impact on our Paint & Body department. That impact is evident in the way he leads the Las Vegas Ceramic and Paint & Body team, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Our guests also love working with Mike, and whenever they interact with him, something amazing happens—they smile. Mike, we’re glad you joined the NIRVC team in Las Vegas, because you make us smile, too!"

I love Vegas. Period.

Next to join the chat was Jase Smith, our Service Manager in Las Vegas. Jase said that "Mike came in and brought a good amount of restructuring and positive change to Las Vegas. Lots of smiles for sure."

I'm gonna stop there and point out that bringing restructure and change in a positive way, with lots of smiles, is not easy. That is solid, proven leadership at work.

Jase continued saying, "the first time I really knew Mike was going to be good for NIRVC was when I saw him personally cleaning up our body shop and helping bring it up to a higher standard. Mike got dirty, and it lasted a couple of weeks. As a manager, that really stood out to me. It’s easy to tell people what needs to be done, but getting your hands dirty and doing it with the team is a quality you don’t see enough anymore. Mike fits right in with the team and has made a positive change here in Las Vegas."

That right there is the key to great leadership: a servant heart that's ready to do exactly what he's asking his team to do.

Next up was Harrison Moser, one of our Paint & Body advisors and recent Feel Good Friday alum. I haven't forgotten the kind words Mike had for Harrison, and Harrison's message confirmed the feeling is definitely mutual. Harrison told me that “Mike 1,000,000% deserves to be the next one up for FGF! I want to give my amazing manager, Mike Armstrong, a special shout out! When Paul made his final decision to hire a new Paint & Body Manager, Paul informed me that who he chose is going to really help turn the Las Vegas body shop into something special. Hearing that really made me excited to meet my new manager, Mike. I already knew he would teach me a lot more than what I already knew in the Paint & Body Department. But unfortunately, I had to wait a week because when he first started, I was on vacation.”

“When I first met Mike when I got back, he didn't just say 'hello' and 'nice to meet you'. He really wanted to get to know me and my techs, Tommy and Claudio. He sat with all of us individually and all of us got to know each other personally, and also professionally. It was very heartwarming to have a manager that is knowledgeable, easy to talk to, selfless, and always willing to help any of us out when we really need it. Having Mike around really eased a lot of work stress because when I would get overwhelmed, Mike would talk to me and let me know what he can do to help relieve any of the extra workload. Whenever I am in a funk, Mike notices and always asks if I am okay. Being in an advisor position is a lot tougher than people know and having a leader, like Mike, makes work better.”

“Mike has made a monumental impact on the shop in less than a year, and I am extremely thankful for everything he has done for the shop, the technicians, and myself. Thank you, Mike, for everything you do. I am forever grateful for your hard work and dedication to the Las Vegas Body Shop!”

Again. When grown men are sharing heartfelt feelings for a colleague – it speaks volumes!!

Adding some balance to the testosterone, Suzanne Goins, our Office Manager, joined the chat to say, "Mike is truly the friendliest person I've ever met! He is always greeting everyone wherever he walks through the building. And has definitely improved our Body Shop 100% from what it used to be. Well deserving to be our Feel Good Friday person!"

And, truth be told, Mike and Harrison's names were submitted simultaneously several weeks ago, so I've known for a while that I would be learning about and writing about Mike ... and his team did not disappoint!

Another Feel Good Friday alum, Tom Shelley, who is one of our Paint & Body master technicians joined the chat to say, "I want to take a moment to recognize Mike Armstrong and the positive impact he has already had on our team.”

It’s really difficult for someone knew to come into a management role and have buy in from their department this quickly. It truly speaks volumes.

Tom continued, but switched his message to talking directly to Mike, and I don’t want to edit his words at all. Mike said, “From the beginning, you have been transparent, approachable, and open-minded. You make it clear that communication goes both ways, and you are willing to listen to different ideas and perspectives. That creates an environment where people feel respected and comfortable speaking up. I also appreciate your willingness to be straightforward about expectations and decisions. Your transparency builds trust, and your open-minded leadership makes it easier for the team to work together and move forward. Although I have only had the opportunity to work with you for a short time, I can already see the difference your leadership style makes. I look forward to continuing to work with you and being part of the team moving forward. Thank you for being a great boss and for creating a workplace built on communication, trust, and respect."

Incredible. Just incredible. A Masterclass in leadership!

Part of what Mike manages is our Ceramic Coating department. Jose Moreno, one of our Ceramic Technicians, joined the chat to say "I would like to take a moment to recognize Mike and thank him for always being a great manager. He’s always respectful, patient, easy to talk to, and he genuinely makes the workplace a better environment. I appreciate that he takes the time to listen, help when needed, and treats everyone with respect. Good managers make a difference, and I just wanted to say that your hard work and leadership are noticed and appreciated. Thank you, Mike, for being a great leader to us and the company!"

After Jose, another one of our Ceramic Technicians, Mario Long, sent me a message that echoed those exact feelings. Mario said, "I just want to take a moment to give a big thank you to an amazing manager. Your leadership, support, and dedication do not go unnoticed. You always make time for your team, lead by example, and help create a positive environment where everyone can do their best. I truly appreciate everything you do and the way you motivate and encourage us. Thank you for being a great manager and an even better leader! Keep up the good work Mike, I genuinely appreciate you." Mario made me laugh when he signed off by saying, "It’s ok to cry now, lol." I just love these guys!!!

Andrew Garcia, one of our Paint & Body advisors took a slightly different approach with his message and wrote Mike a letter. I don't want to edit his words at all, so here it is:

“Dear Mike,
I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for your leadership and guidance.

Having you as a manager has made a significant difference in my day-to-day experience here. Your approach to leadership—balancing clear direction with trust and support—creates an environment where it is easy to stay motivated and do good work. I truly appreciate how approachable you are, how you advocate for the team, and how you take the time to offer constructive guidance when it matters most."

And, then as I was working with our Director of Paint & Body this morning, Rich Krause, I remembered that he would probably want to say something to Mike. Rick told me that "Mike is an exceptional leader whose Paint & Body expertise and genuine commitment to his team and our customers, make our Las Vegas operation stronger every day. It's an absolute pleasure work alongside him, and we are incredibly grateful for the knowledge, positivity, and leadership he brings to NIRVC!"

When it comes to business management, I think the highest compliment we can strive for in a manager is to be known for being positive and have a team who respects, trusts, and celebrates their leadership style. Mike has all of that in Vegas ... and then some!

Finally, I was able to catch Brett a bit ago as he landed in Salt Lake City for his son's wedding. Brett was pressed for time, but he wanted to make sure I called him to talk about Mike. Brett explained that it became very apparent in 2025 that Las Vegas needed an overhaul on many levels, in order to make sure that "our hamburger tasted the same at every location." Brett said "Mike and I are kindred spirits. He's a neat freak. The first week on the job, all he did was declutter, clean, and haul off truckloads. Be still my heart. It was love at first sight for me. We spent a fortune on our facilities, and I want them looking new, and Mike gets it."

Then Brett switched gears and echoed what everyone else said. Brett said that "growing and scaling a service-based business, while maintaining the integrity of flagship principles is never easy or without growing pains. As we strategically placed the right people in management positions in Las Vegas, we saw that ship begin to course correct quicker than we anticipated. A large part of that course correction is due to Mike Armstrong and his leadership style. He came into a department that desperately needed structure, accountability, and solid leadership. Mike delivered all of those qualities in short order and never looked back. I love his endlessly positive attitude and the way he leads his team. It's been impressive to watch the buy in he's created for his department. To earn their trust in short order is no small feat, and it definitely does not go unnoticed. I've been encouraged to see the change that Mike, Paul, Jase, Astro, and so many others in Vegas have brought in such a short amount of time. I'm excited and proud to have our Vegas team hosting our new Las Vegas Motorhome Expo on their home turf, and very much looking forward to the team there knocking this Expo out of the park, year after year, just like our Nashville team does with Music City. Mike, thank you for delivering results we can count on! So grateful you found a home at NIRVC!"

PS - Props to Paul for his private investigator photography skills. LOL!

Feel Good Friday: The Man's Man ... and the Ladies' Man

I'm so excited to tell y'all about Travis Street, one of our technicians at our Dallas location. I've had the pleasure of working with Travis on several occasions as his bay is one of the first in the shop ... and when I'm looking for help with a video, I always stop by his bay first. The ladies might know Travis as "the one coming down the stairs in the Valentine's video." You think I'm kidding, but the number of direct messages I received specifically asking for his contact information was borderline stalker level. I'm gonna go ahead and break a few hearts right off the bat today: Travis is married, with 3 adorable children, and according to everyone around here, his family is everything to him!

Since he does way more than give a good smolder while walking down the stairs, I reached out to his team to get their input on what it's like to work with the walking GQ model. 😉 Shanon Parks, our new General Manager in Dallas, told me that “Travis is one of those guys that just keeps his head down and flies under the radar. He doesn’t like attention, and not many people know he is a very good golfer. If I could play half as good as him, I would have it on a t-shirt and everyone would know about it.” Welp! There goes the ‘no attention’ thing, Trav!

Shanon said that "Travis has 3 things he is serious about: his family (wife Alexa and 3 kids), his work, and golf! I knew from the time I first met Travis that he would be a good tech, but I didn’t really know until he had been with us for a few months (8 years ago) and came to me wanting some input on a dash A/C. He was new to the industry and automotive air conditioning but that didn’t stop him from digging in. Before asking for help, he went home the night before and researched and printed documents on air conditioning. When he came to me, he didn’t ask for help; instead, he wanted my input on what his thoughts were on something he had never worked on before … that spoke volumes to me because someone with that kind of initiative is very hard to come by, and he has done nothing but grow since then. I am extremely thankful to have Travis as a technician and friend."

As a former teacher, I couldn't love that story more! The hardest thing to come by in a student is initiative. If everyone took the initiative to research on their own before asking for help, I'm convinced we could solve the world's problems.

Brandon Aeling, our new Service Manager in Dallas, was the next to weigh in on Travis. Brandon told me that he's "had the pleasure of having Travis on my team since the beginning of 2023 when we started the 7-day-a-week schedule. The man is hard-working, detail-oriented and extremely knowledgeable. His stories/write-ups are second to none. I can't tell you how many times I've had a customer call in about something we did a year or more ago, and I can read Travis’s notes and tell them exactly what we did and how we did it. That's a very rare quality to have in a tech, and I'm sure glad to have his skills on my team!”

And then, Brandon echoed what Shanon already said about Travis’s golf stats, which tells me Trav is a true man’s man. Brandon said that “Travis isn't just a coworker; he's become a great friend. I have spent many hours with him out on the golf course. The guy’s a stud. I was there the first time he broke 80 and shot a 79 at Frisco Lakes, and I'm pretty sure that was the first time we had even played together! He's always happy to help as well and has given me more tips and tricks than I can count. He even helped me break 100 for the first time! 🤣 Each year we play in a Wounded Warriors golf tournament and man is it nice to have him on the scramble team!”

The Scramble Team. LOL!

The last thing Brandon said was that “Travis is a family man through and through, hell of a golfer, and a fantastic technician. I am glad to call him a friend, and I could not be prouder of who he has become and the man he will continue to evolve into!”

The last person I caught before getting with Brett for our weekly employee chat was Eddie Braley, our new Director of Operations. Eddie told me that “Travis has been a technician with NIRVC since 2018, and the value he brings to our company is incredible. I have never met anyone who takes more pride in the quality of their work. His meticulous attention to detail and determination to ensure every job is done right the first time sets him apart from the rest.”

“Travis is a true master craftsman. Whether he is performing detailed wood and finish repairs, troubleshooting complex issues, or working his magic installing tow bar baseplates and wiring, his craftsmanship is second to none. Behind the scenes and under the hood, every aspect of his work is completed with precision and care. His installations are so clean and well-executed that you can hardly tell anything has been done.”

And all the ladies thought he was just a pretty face! 😉

Eddie finished by adding, “Thank you, Travis, for bleeding blue and for everything you do for NIRVC. Your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence make a tremendous impact on our team, our customers, and our company every day.”

On the way to Brett’s office, I caught Angie. When she heard Travis was our Feel Good Friday, she said, “hold on – I want to add something!” Haha. See? All the ladies love Travis.

And then her text came in while I was chatting with Brett. Angie said, “Travis is definitely a ‘get ’er done’ kind of guy! He always has a smile on his face and is willing to jump in and help anyone, including being a great sport and joining us in our fun videos! He’s truly someone you can always count on!”

When I finally got to sit down with Brett, we joked about all the attention Travis caused with his Valentine’s cameo. Brett said, “yeah, but doesn’t he have 3 little girls?” So close! 2 little girls and 1 little boy, but even Brett knew that Travis had 3 kids. After we quit laughing about all the online crushing, Brett wanted to talk about what an asset Travis has been to NIRVC. He told me, “I cannot recall a single complaint about Travis or a single comeback on his work. In fact, what I have gotten is the opposite. I have consistently heard about what a perfectionist Travis is with his work. He’s efficient, he does things right the first time, and he’s just zero drama. That type of technician does really well at NIRVC because we aren’t like most dealers or shops. Our technicians make significantly more per hour because we pay a flat rate per job; however, that only works out for the most experienced technicians or quick learners with excellent attention to detail. Fortunately, Travis is both. He learned quickly and his attention to detail could not be better. Plus, he looks great in a commercial. He’s every dealer’s dream, and I'm so glad he’s at NIRVC.”

Feel Good Friday: Bubbles

I love when a name I’ve never heard comes across my desk because I have a thing for the unsung heroes who quietly go about their day, doing their job. Harrison Moser, one of our Paint & Body Advisors in Las Vegas is exactly that kind of employee.

Paul Morrow, our General Manager in Vegas told me that when he “learned that Harrison had been chosen as our Feel Good Friday candidate, I couldn't help but feel genuinely excited. The first word that springs to mind when I think of Harrison is character. Harrison brings a vibrant energy to any situation and never hesitates to crack a joke, instantly lightening the mood; however, beyond his humorous side, Harrison consistently demonstrates a deep commitment to our guests. He routinely goes above and beyond, ensuring every guest feels valued and well taken care of.”

“This dedication doesn't go unnoticed. Our guests frequently mention Harrison in their feedback, highlighting exceptional customer service and memorable interactions. The praise he receives in surveys is a testament to the positive impact Harrison makes daily. Simply put, Harrison embodies the spirit of NIRVC unwavering enthusiasm and care.”

Astro, our Wash & Detail Manager in Vegas was quick to respond to my request for input, telling me, “Harry for Feel Good Friday? I absolutely LOVE this! It's about time we recognize him! 🎉”

(Side note: I am here for the men who use emojis in their messages! Astro, you are nothing but good vibes.)

Astro said, “First off, I've got to give a huge shoutout to Harry. About five years ago when I started as a Valet/Porter, Harry took me under his wing and taught me just about everything I know about driving coaches! I definitely owe a lot of my confidence behind the wheel to him! One thing about Harry - he can make just about anyone smile without even trying. He's simply himself, and that's what makes him so great. Whether he's cracking a joke or saying exactly what's on his mind (because let's be honest... Harry has no filter 😂), you always know where you stand with him! That's just Harry, and we wouldn't want him any other way. Thanks for always being you, Harry, and congratulations on being our Feel Good Friday spotlight! You definitely deserve it! 👏”

Whenever I hear from someone that wasn’t originally included on my Teams chat asking for input, I know the person I’m writing about is awesome. And, that’s exactly what happened when Sherrell Savage, our Warranty Manager emailed me out of the blue to say: “I cannot tell you how excited I was to be asked, as Harry is a truly amazing person! Hopefully it’s not too late to submit! 😊 Harrison is the best of us. He is his truest self and the team and customers love him for it. He is always kind and respectful to our customers, and they always look for him when they stop in, even if they don’t have any body work (needed or being done). Harrison is always doing the best anyone asks of him and is always going out of his way to make sure our customers paint & body work needs are met. Harrison has a knack for making everyone feel welcome – every new team member, every customer, and especially the furry ones!”
I always love it when someone can offer insight into our employees with a story, and that’s exactly what our Service Manager, Jase Smith, did. Jase told me, “Harry and I go way back, almost to the beginning of NIRVC Las Vegas. And of course, he will still tell you about how he got here first ... and he will make sure everyone around you knows it!”

Haha. Hold one over on him, Harry! Do your thing!!

Jase continued saying, “I've been thinking about Harry all day, trying to figure out how to describe him. The best comparison I could come up with is ... Bubbles. Hear me out ...”

“It doesn't matter if you're 3 years old or 150 years old. When you see bubbles floating through the air, your first instinct is to stop what you're doing, smile, and try to catch one or pop a few. Either way, that's how I feel about Harry. He's a very dedicated Body Shop Advisor and has excelled at every job he's done for NIRVC. I truly see Harry as a huge asset because he truly advocates for his customers and the technicians. His attitude is one of the best, and even during the most stressful times, Harry will stop, throw out one of his classic one liners, and instantly lift everyone's spirits. ‘Let’s Go Phillies!’”

One of the most endearing pieces of input came from Mike Armstrong, our Paint & Body Manager and Harrison’s immediate supervisor. Mike’s input was simply an email to Harrison, sent directly to me. I don’t want to edit it at all, so here it is:

“Dear Harrison,

I wanted to take a moment to put into words something I don’t say often enough: thank you. From day one, you have been my right hand, and this business would not be what it is today without you.

You are loved by employees and customers alike, and it’s easy to see why. You carry a great attitude every single day, and you are always willing to help — no task too small, no ask too inconvenient. That kind of reliability and heart is rare, and it does not go unnoticed.

Beyond the work, you are simply an amazing person. Your service to our country as a veteran speaks to a character built on discipline, sacrifice, and integrity — qualities you bring into everything you do here. You’ve got a great sense of humor that lifts the whole team, and honestly, some of my favorite moments have been hearing you light up talking about your dogs with anyone willing to listen. That warmth is part of what makes you who you are.

All around, you’re a great guy, and I am fortunate to have you by my side. Thank you for everything you do, for who you are, and for the example you set every day.

With sincere gratitude and respect,

Mike Armstrong”

You guysssss. This team is so special!! I absolutely loved learning about Harrison/Harry/Bubbles.

Per usual, the last person I reached out to was Brett. We are in Europe the next couple weeks with our AIM Club, but Brett was ready to talk about Harrison. Brett told me that our Paint & Body business is one of our most trusted services because it combines insurance, warranty, and customers. He said, “it doesn’t matter if it’s a small ding or a major collision repair – when we have our customers’ coach in the repair shop, they are trusting us to make them whole again. They know that we guarantee our body work for life, and because of that, our advisors and technicians who oversee these jobs must always be on their game. Mistakes in Paint & Body can be very costly, both financially and with our customers’ trust. I am proud to say that I have genuinely never heard a single complaint about Harrison, his quotes, his service; nothing. He’s been with NIRVC for far too long for us to just now be recognizing his hard work, and I’m so grateful he’s made a home at NIRVC. Thank you, Harry!”
