A half hour of diagnostics can save a lot of wasted time and money.

This is why we test instead of guessing.

A vehicle can have a problem that looks like it needs a sensor, module, relay, switch, or any number of parts. But until the circuit is actually checked, you may just be throwing parts at it and hoping one fixes the issue.

In this case, a little diagnostic time led us to the real problem: a wiring/connection issue hiding in the harness.

That is the difference between repair work and parts swapping.

Good diagnostics do not always take hours. Sometimes 30 minutes of proper testing can keep a customer from buying parts they never needed.

Test first. Repair second. Guess last.

This customer got lucky.

This is a broken timing belt.

On many vehicles, when a timing belt breaks, it can cause serious internal engine damage. Bent valves, loss of compression, and a repair bill that gets expensive fast.

This Toyota happened to have a non-interference engine, meaning the engine survived when the belt failed.

In plain English: the belt broke, but the engine did not destroy itself.

Not every vehicle is that forgiving.

Timing belts are routine maintenance, but they are easy to overlook because you usually cannot see them and they may not give much warning before failure.

If your vehicle has a timing belt, it should be replaced by mileage and age — not after it breaks.

Maintenance is cheaper than failure.

We have some exciting news — Reliable Repair is officially reopening at our original location.

The opportunity came up for us to return to our original building, and we decided it was the best move for our customers and the business. We will still be offering mobile service appointments on Fridays only.

Small problems usually give warnings before they become big problems.

A new noise, a shake, a warning light, a slow crank, or a fluid spot in the driveway is your vehicle trying to tell you something.

Ignoring it does not make it cheaper. It usually just gives the problem more time to grow.

Pay attention early. Repair bills are usually easier to control before the failure gets worse.

Quick car tip:

If your A/C is blowing warm, it does not always mean it “just needs Freon.”

Low refrigerant usually means there is a leak somewhere. Other common causes can include a weak compressor, electrical issue, cooling fan problem, or restriction in the system.

Adding refrigerant without finding the cause may only be a temporary fix.

The right repair starts with finding out why the system stopped cooling in the first place.
