It’s actually good to see the platform finally starting to evolve again.
Another photo got posted recently with external wastegates in a very familiar location. Most people probably scrolled right past it, but honestly… it’s one of the smarter changes we’ve seen made to his builds .
Notice where the wastegates are positioned?
That used to be where the factory-style pre-turbo O2 sensors lived.
Now look closer — the widebands appear to have been relocated to the downpipes post-turbo instead of manifold pre-turbo.
That’s a change we started making back in 2022/2023 after noticing unstable fueling behavior on a lot of aggressive VR30 setups. One of the main theories we developed was that the sensors were being affected by cylinder pulse interference in the manifold location.
Since most of our background is in turbo platforms, moving widebands post-turbo was already pretty standard practice to us — honestly surprising Infiniti didn’t do it that way from the factory.
After relocating them to the downpipes, fueling data became noticeably more stable.
Interesting seeing more people arrive at similar conclusions now.
