The Main Events: Rules & Classes
The Father's Day Spectacular features some of the most unique, crowd-pleasing events of the summer. Competitors must strictly adhere to the 2026 rules to clear inspection:
1. Trash Car & Derby Rules
Eligible Vehicles: Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) cars and mini-vans only. Stock classes are strictly limited to 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines.
MOD Class: Features V6 engines. Stock 3 and 4-cylinder vehicles are permitted to pull double duty and run in both classes.
Safety & Preparation: All glass, brake lights, and turn signals must be completely removed (front windshields are allowed). Doors must be securely welded or chained shut. No frame reinforcement is permitted. Batteries must be securely tied down.
Cage Requirements: A minimum of one rollbar is mandatory directly behind the driver's seat, secured with four nuts and bolts on both the top and bottom. Four-point and full roll cages are highly encouraged.
Derby Eligibility: A driver's door bar is mandatory for the Derby portion. Furthermore, cars must participate in at least one trash car race to be eligible for the final Derby.
2. The Infamous Chain Race
Two cars, one chain, total chaos. One driver steers the power, while the teammate in the back manages the brakes.
Vehicle Specs: All pulling vehicles must be 2-wheel drive, powered by a 4-cylinder or V6 engine (Strictly NO V8s). Both vehicles must sport good tires with no balds or blemishes.
The Chain Setup: Cars must be linked bumper-to-bumper with a chain measuring no less than 4 feet apart. Chains cannot hook directly to the bumper, and protective pipes on the chains are prohibited. If a chain breaks during the race, the team is scored as DNF (Did Not Finish).
The Dead Car (Rear Vehicle): The rear car must have a functioning motor and working brakes, but the engine must remain off for the duration of the event. To ensure compliance, the rear car's battery and coil wire must be entirely removed. If the second car's engine is found running at any point, the team faces immediate disqualification.
Driver Safety: Drivers must remain inside their vehicles at all times unless explicitly directed otherwise by a track official.
Mandatory Driver Safety Checklist
Safety is the number one priority at Willamette Speedway. Tech inspection will strictly enforce the following driver gear:
Mandatory: Working seat belt (shoulder harness or 3-point harness required for Chain Race), full-face helmet, neck brace, gloves, long-sleeved shirt, jeans/long pants, shoes, and socks.
Highly Recommended: An upgraded aluminum racing seat, 5-point safety harness, window net, and a fire-resistant driving suit with matching fire-retardant gloves, shoes, and socks, paired with a SA-Rated full-face helmet.
