The remodeling on our shop has been pretty a long process. But, It was a huge project, that I may have underestimated somewhat at the beginning. At least Part of the building is over 100 years old. It had holes in the roof, sagging trusses in places, the electric company turned the power off due to the damaged electrical service and the interior wiring that
was a total mess, there were rotten studs in several walls, lean-too’s on the front that were falling apart and falling down, doors that didn’t properly open and close and latch, home/ made shelves and cabinets everywhere that weren’t level or square, thousands of nails on the wall to hang stuff on And everything was painted funky colors, purple and green mainly. It was full of old building materials, mostly junk and some trash. It’s was a mess. Most people would have bulldozed it, but I could see the potential. and I’m happy I did. Now , less than 1 year later the Roof is repaired (just needs to be coated still), the electrical service and all interior wiring has been repaired and passed inspection and the power is on. The sagging trusses have been braced up and reinforced. All the rotten wood has been removed and/or replaced. The old lean too’s on the front have been tore off, metal roofing panels cover all the front wall now
(Just need paint) the lay out of front of the building changed quite a bid and the entrance door was relocated. It now has an comfortable office/waiting area with brand new HVAC unit. Improved shop/work area and storage areas. It’s almost done, only a couple more little things to wrap up. I take so much pride in this building. It’s a living display of what can be done with a little imagination, ingenuity, determination and physical labor. I didn’t hire anyone, didn’t ask anyone for help, I did everything myself with the help of my dad. Looking back, it’s pretty amazing what we accomplished in less than an year with only 2 men, a very limited budget and using mostly used material. Here’s some pictures of the office/waiting area. Pictures of the shop area and exterior to come soon!
