Trailer safety is one of those things that only takes a few minutes but can make all the difference once you’re on the road.

One of the biggest reminders we give customers: don’t forget to re-check your lug nuts. This is especially important on a new trailer, after a tire change, or anytime a wheel has been removed for service. As the trailer settles in and parts heat, cool and move under load, lug nuts can loosen if they are not properly re-torqued.

A good rule of thumb is to check them after the first 10 miles, 25 miles, 50 miles and again at 100 miles, then continue checking periodically as part of your regular trailer maintenance.

Before every haul, take a minute to slow down, walk around your trailer and make sure everything looks right. It is a simple habit that helps protect your trailer, your load and everyone else on the road.
