A note from the CIADA CEO: CIADA Advocates for Colorado’s Automotive Industry
CIADA continues to work on behalf of its members, engaging with lawmakers at both the state and federal levels to advance policies that protect consumers and support the automotive industry.
In September, CIADA representatives joined NIADA and other state associations in Washington, D.C., to discuss key legislative priorities with members of Colorado’s congressional delegation from both parties. The meetings focused on three important measures: the Repair Act, the Parts Act, and the TABS Act, which addresses oversight of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
👉 The Repair Act would require automobile manufacturers to provide independent repair shops with access to the vehicle data and tools necessary to service and repair vehicles, giving consumers greater freedom to choose where their vehicles are maintained.
👉 The Parts Act seeks to combat catalytic converter theft by requiring identification numbers on catalytic converters installed in new vehicles. It would also establish a $7 million grant program to help cover the cost of marking catalytic converters on vehicles already in use.
👉 The TABS Act would shift responsibility for CFPB funding and oversight from the agency’s director to Congress, increasing congressional involvement in the agency’s operations.
Following these discussions, Colorado lawmakers expressed openness to supporting the three measures. CIADA is continuing its outreach to address any outstanding questions and encourage their support.
Our advocacy efforts extend beyond Washington. CIADA is also working with Colorado legislators and the Attorney General’s Office to build support for state legislation addressing catalytic converter theft and efforts to restore funding for the Colorado Automobile Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA). These initiatives are important steps toward reducing vehicle-related crime and protecting consumers, dealers, and the broader automotive community.
As election season approaches, we encourage members to learn about the candidates on their ballots and support elected officials who understand the challenges facing our industry, advocate for reasonable business policies, and oppose unnecessary tax and fee increases.
